Yank fuse 14 in the fuse block on the side of the dash. Should disable the abs system, and also keep the lite from turning on. If other stuff stops working as well, put the fuse back in, and just yank the relay for the ABS system in the PDC. (if that works, try swapping the ABS relay with another one, and see if the truck will work correctly.)
ok took out #14 and it didn't help, I also disconnected the rwal and the other wire next to the master cyl. and under the dash and it still stalled. It's beer time now. grrrrrrrrr going to replace the brake switch tomorrow. Thanks again
i wouldn't replace the brake pedal switch. i think it would be a waste of time and money. unplug it as a test - just to prove it is or isn't related to the problem.
Ok removed the fuse and it didn't stall, put the fuse back in and removed the stop-headlight relay didn't stall removed both didn't stall put them back in hit the brakes it stalled
If it was a short wouldnt it just pop a fuse and not do it again or catch fire?
Does it immediately kill the motor or does it get a rough idle then stall?
Whats the volts reading while pushing the brakes
i haven't looked at any wiring diagrams, but i'm guessing that the brake light switch is switching the ground, not the hot. and then maybe an ignition wire and a brake light wire are shorted. so when the brake circuit grounds, it takes the ignition with it. maybe?
look at the wiring diagrams in the downloadable 01 service manual. section 8.
It does a rough idle then stalls in about 3 seconds. The volts don't really change when I hit the brakes, It reads just over 14 and goes down as the rpm's go down. Then I take my foot off the brake it starts right up. The idle is smooth till I hit the brakes.
I wish the wiring diagrams in the manual were a bit more comprehensive...... I suspect that something AFTER the brake lamp switch is the issue.... looks like it goes to the CHMSL first, then to the multi-function switch.....
