Default Speedometer doesn't work, and no O/D

Well took the truck down the road for the first time that it's moved in 6 years or more. And aside from some small stuff I somewhat expected, steering wheel shake at normal road speeds probably cause buy low pressure in old tires, and some brake noise from knocking off the rust, etc it was okay. Except for 2 big problems.

The speedometer isn't working at all. And the transmission isn't shifting into overdrive or locking up the torque converter. Are these issues related somehow or is this 2 separate problems? It also got a check engine light after driving it up and down the street a couple times. I don't have an OBDI code reader though so I don't know what the code is at this point.

I've checked the Gears on the VSS and they both appear perfect. I'm planning to replace the VSS to try getting the speedo working, but wanted to know if there is something else to look for to fix the speedo problem, and what to check or replace to fix the O/D and T/C lockup issue.

The truck is a 1994 Ram 2500 4x4, V10

Fix the speedo first, (VSS is a likely culprit....) that will probably also solve the other problems.

alright, I'll pick one up and put it in tomorrow then. And keep my fingers crossed that it solves it.

Gotta remember, the VSS is indexed, according to what color speedo gear you have. It might be on the part... if not, it's in the 95 service manual.

indexed? The gear is green. I know it had all worked properly when my uncle parked it years ago. And when I put it back in I put it all exactly how it was. How do I index it for when i get the new one?

You can download a service manual in the FAQ/DIY section. It will be helpful.

Try checking for codes like this. http://dodgeram.info/Engine-Gas/OBDI/pcm_fault_code.htm Is the CEL on?

Well replaced the vss, and still nothing. Is there anyway to test to verify that the gauge in the dash is any good? I took a VOM and its getting power to the vss connector

I am not sure if the speedo is supposed to test when you hit the key or not...... I seem to have come upon a spare cluster though.... with tach..... if you wanted to give that a shot.
