Thats why the limited slip doesn't work anymore
replacing 3:55 gears with 4:56 gears and was woundering if i should leave the guts alone if everything is good or should i install a detriot trutrac, it will have 37/14/18 nitto terra graphlers and its a daily driver and towing everyonce and again
If that is a 1500.... 35" is the largest recommended tire size. If you are 3/4 or 1 ton... those tires will be fine.
What do you have in the rear now? Open? Stock LSD? Other? Really, with either of the first two, if you are in there doing gears, NOW is the time to upgrade as well. Detroit Locker, or something equally as robust wouldn't be a bad plan.
Gdstock, pictures will be coming of the old ring gear with missing teeth when I get back to the shop that installed them to take a picture.
I got to drive the truck today for awhile, I'm still being easy on the gears for the break in so no heavy throttle yet. But I can already tell I love the 4.10's it made the shifts better and has more power on take off. Our trucks really should off came with 4.10s from the factory.

Any idea waht caused those chunks to come unglued? Faulty installation or misalignment on installation? Is the shop making it good (hopefully)?
One of the few things I have not done on a vehicle is the differential.
Why not just go to 4.88's? You will get more of a power increase, but still be comfortable on the freeway... You wouldn't wanna do it a third time would ya?
Just keep in mind, 4.56's and 35's will only put you back to the stock powerband.

gdstock, the factory limited slip (trac-Lok) started to fall apart apparently a common problem. These parts floating around are what took the teeth off of the ring gear. You could actually see impact marks and fractures from where the limted slip clutch parts got caught between the ring gear and pinion on the broken tooth.
