Huge update

OK folks my engine swap is getting put on hold for a short while.

There is a fellow forum member who has a 408 engine in his truck that wants to trade it for a 360. So we have worked out a deal where I am going to pickup his engine and bring it back to my garage. Then I am going to swap his 408 short block for my 360 short block. So he will end up with his head and intake on my 360 and I will use my head and intake on his 408 short block. I am also going to swap out my cam and install the stock 360 cam into my 360 short block.

So why am I doing this? Because I have wanted to build a 408 engine from the get go but didn't have the funds at the time to do it. Which was why I just did a basic rebuild on the short block as my plans were to wait until I had the money and then pull the engine and do a 408 stroker kit. So now I do not have wait. I am getting my 408 NOW!!!!!!!!
The 408 I am getting has a Scat crank, Eagle rods and Keith Black piston and has a 9.5:1 compression ratio. So with my large valve heads and Air Gap intake that 408 should work great. And with the Comp Cam 206029 CRS262HR12 Camshaft and the Scorpion roller rockers I really think it will be an engine I can be happy with.

What do you all think????

I think that combo is going to rip your jeep in half with the low end torque. You won't even NEED the right tires to push the house off the foundation. May even run decent on 87 octane...... depending on your timing curves.

Sweet! You might have to reconsider the axle swap though haha.

Hehehe,
I think I have built the Jeep tough enough to handle the torque of the engine. I'll be talking to Sean as far as the timing curves go when it comes time to tune that 408. I got a D60 rear axle, D44 front axle, 46RE trans built to handle 500+ HP, drivelines with 1350 u-joints & a light right foot.

Well I might not be telling the truth about the light right foot!!

Congrats on Ting up a 408... now I'm officially jealous

You'll just need the shadow of your right foot to drive that bad boy.

Hehehehe,
When I was younger I was told I had two left feet a few times. But after many many years of marching in the Army I lost one of those left feet and now have a left & right foot.

Well getting the old engine and tranny out is still moving along. I worked on getting the transfer case out today. I sure was wishing for a NP231 today. I can take one of them loose and drop it down onto my chest and then roll it to the floor but I am sure the heck not going to do that with a STaK's transfer case. The monster 3 speed box weighs in at 150lbs and it is BIG!!!

So I don't have a REAL floor jack. I had bought one of those tranny jack adapter plates for my floor jack. It had been a while since I had used it and had forgotten how tall the darn thing is. So I had the transfer case on the jack but now couldn't get the dang nab thing out from under my Jeep and there was no way I could lift it off the jack under the Jeep.

Now my ONLY floor jack is tied up as the tranny/transfer case jack right now so I can't just jack up the Jeep and pull the transfer case out from under it.

Deflated air bag???

Inflated air bag?? Yep that is right got to love air ride suspension sometimes. I just aired up the two rear air bags and put more air in the right rear to get that side up higher.

Now it just rolls right out from under the Jeep.

So here it sits, the big bad 3 speed Monster Box from STaK's.

Now to give you a little size reference this is a 18inch 1/2" drive breaker bar and it is ALMOST as wide as the STaK's.

So if I get time this weekend I might actually have the old engine and tranny pulled and sitting on the ground.

Doood! Now the thread title REALLY needs to change to --

"How to REALLY -build- a 408!!" lol

Congrats WM! It's gonna be sick nasty. I've seen Rubicon D44s hold up to a HEMI swapped into a JK. Just that the ring gear kept getting a bit of extra love.

I really really dig the StaK. I've seen a few go up for sale. It's just the perception at least, that the StaK company is still around but not really supporting their product. I really don't know as it's all based on internet info....

There is a new tcase out on the market...just starting though. It's called the Hero and is made by Trail Worthy Fab.

http://www.trailworthyfab.com/Trail-...Hero-Case.html

The word is that the owner purchased the plans or the rights to the plans/drawings of the Stak. That is internet inference.

I'm glad to see yours remain!!
