Finally got bored enough so I got around to turning the fuel screw 3/4 turn from runaway and wow did it make a difference. But it also got pretty hot and rolled black when I got into it from a stop...

So, I decided it was time to get the 12cm exhaust housing on the small h1c and loop in the '97 intercooler I've had laying on the shelf Hopefully the efficiency drop of the fuel screw tuning will be cancelled by the 12v intercooler. I guess well see....

Nice.

See what it does to fuel economy vs. power, and let us know.

Turning them screws can get addicting

Have you backed the smoke screw out flush with the cap? That and flipping the starwheel and positioning it 4 full turns from the bottom is about the best you can get for smoke control without losing top end fueling.

If you already had a handle on all this, my bad

I haven't touched the star wheel or fuel pin until I got the tighter ex housing on as it wouldn't be accurate until the fuel was pushing the turbine as hard as is should be...

it'll be another 10k before it does... which should be next spring as long as she keeps up her mileage

So I've been checking mileage for the last month and was super disappointed that my mpg dropped to 18avg!!!! I was pretty pissed- until I got clocked going 61when my speedo said 55 lol. Sometime between when I got it together, and now, my speedo has dropped around 10%... So when I was driving "75", I was actually driving 83! That would explain some things. Between that and my odometer reading less since it didnt know I was traveling that fast.

After recalculating, I'm now averaging 22-23mpg running at 60-65mph on round trips using the same pump. So I probably lost 1-2mpg but I am far from worried because the new found power makes it so much easier to drive in traffic. It smokes if I floor it from a stop but for the most part, the new air upgrades cleaned up almost all of the smoke throughout the rpm band.

Still not not done tinkering..............

sounds like the same mileage you would get from a 6bt with stock tires and 3.54 gears

of course mine is a poor example being built to 576hp, having 4.10 gears, and 35" tires... I average 15.5MPG hand calc using GPS mileage with a truck that hazes at idle.

all that said...would love a 2.8L cummins for the S10

I'm guessing I'm only getting 1-2mpg better than the 12v trucks... It's not a swap I would do to a good running truck when for about the same price as the original truck + swap costs it doesn't pan out...

Never heard of the 2.8? I see a few 3.3 swaps here and there tho

Just to **** you off Moo, there are a fair amount of 1st gen guys getting 27+ mpg out of their 12v's. A big factor here is the auto tranny though honestly.
