Default TRuck still don't run.

Knowing me I put this in the wrong area. If I did sorry about that.

The truck (99' Dodge Ram 1500) died one day and would not start. We figured fuel pump. So we changed it, well it still don't run. I'm not having very good luck, lol. I don't think the fuel pump is getting power because I can't hear it. We checked fuses in the cab and under the hood. Another words we are stumped. I'm getting very close to junking this truck. Can't really afford to since I can't just go out and buy another vehicle. Anyone have some suggestions?

fuel pump can be tricky. it operates only under control of the pcm, which can shut it down as part of the ASD system (automatic shutdown), for any of a long list of reasons.

the first thing to do is establish that it gets power for about 3 seconds ONLY when the key is turned ON. the pcm turns it on to prime the system. i don't know if the pcm breaks the 12volt positive or the 12volt negative ground, but it breaks one of them. after about 3 seconds, if it does not sense that the engine is running (by crankshaft position sensor), then it triggers the ASD and shuts it down.

other pieces to checks are the ASD relay. fuel pump relay. fuses in end of dash? fuses in power box beside battery.

i'll find some troubleshooting threads on it.

Troubleshooting is always far superior to throwing parts at it. Add test equipment to the equation to investigate symptoms and let the results guide you. It'd be silly to junk a truck just because it has outsmarted you.

If you haven't got a wiring diagram, grab the factory service manual from our FAQ/DIY section. Test your hunches and let the results guide you. Go in knowing what should be present, and find the thing that isn't. Go from there.

I'm working on getting help with all this. I don't know a whole lot about vehicles. So far I'm having no luck on getting anyone to help me out.

First, find out what you are missing. Fuel, or spark. Pull a couple plugs, see what they look like.

It will run if you spray ether in the injector area. Soon as you stop spraying it dies out.

Ok, well in that case you need to check fuel pressure with a gauge just to verify. Also, you can swap relays around. Horn works? swap it with the ASD relay for instance.
