Default OOOOOOOOOver drive solenoid?

Ok, so i, sometime ago posted a thread about swapping a trans from a 97 to my 00, just finished it today, so i have a few questions, first, i stuck the new trans in from the 97, gov solenoid and all, runs good, after finding out the transfer cases gear layout is different, took it on the highway, blah blah, no overdrive, now yes i know i was supposed to change it according to some folks i didnt have the time casue i needed to head off to work, so question is when i looked on rock auto the solenoids are the same part # is there really a diffrence on the two? and second am i reading the service manual correctly that i need to drop the valve body to change out the od solenoid? lastly is there anything else i should know/do while i got the pan down?

o/d solenoids are the same. its the overdrive pressure sensor, and tcc/lock-up solenoid that you need to replace. but replace all 3. no you dont have to drop the valve body. all you need to do is drop a piece of the valve body, but pay attention when you do, because a spring will shoot out at you. if i can find a picture of what im talking about, ill post it up.

As I recall, the newer governor parts mount differently than the older versions. Need to scavenge some parts off of the newer governor pressure assembly.

The governor solenoids are the same. You need the bracket as shown and the governor pressure switch/transducer and the TCC/OD solenoid assembly for your year truck.

Actually, it might be just the governor pressure sensor and solenoid, and a bracket for those.... don't know if the O/D and TCC solenoids changed or not... check part numbers to see.

There is NO, OD pressure switch, You need that bracket, a "Governor" pressure switch/transducer and the TCC/OD solenoid assembly for your year truck. You will need to remove the gov body to install the new gov pressure switch. And the new TCC/OD solenoid assembly can be swapped without removing the valve body itself.

ok im sorry guys im kinda getting confused here, so let me put it this way, 1. the trans right now is the trans from the 97 ram, it has the 97 solenoid & transducer set in it, it shift fine, no problems. i just dont have overdrive, so with that being said, according to z man, even though the 97 gov/transducer, work fine, they still need to be replaced?, or can i get away with just swapping out the tcc/od solenoid.

2 i dont quite believe my friend, but he thinks that somehow i can run a regular toggle switch or somehting of that sort on the dash(which im not in favor of) to get od to function, is that even a possibilty?

You could run just a toggle.... but I REALLY don't recommend that. PCM just grounds the circuit for the TCC and O/D solenoids to get them to do their appropriate tricks.

The trouble isn't with the parts themselves.... kinda, the trouble is with the connector, where the main harness hooks to the trans. Dodge changed the pin-outs on them for some obscure reason.... Hence the need to swap the older parts for the correct ones for your year truck.
