Default tuning solutions

im looking for tuning gear for my 97 ss/t. nothing like the overpriced generic flash tuners like superchips or bullydog, etc. last i checked there wasnt anyone out there hacking up the code unless it was the ripoff sct crap. and even users like hemifever were or are uptight to talk about tuning and if there was any other tuning hardware/software on the market. i know i can piggyback MS and be able to control the fuel/spark with good success, but im looking to be able to finely tune the trans as well. my next option would be to use a GM PCM, id rather not travel that route due to the fact that there would be alot of time invested to get it to run right, most likely.

so is the anymore development in the tuning, specifically the 440AD pcm?

Thanks

Welcome to DF. This may help a little. Also, put up some specifics of your truck and use the search function.

i looked thru the tuner thread, couldnt reply. according to cruze55's response his PCM is cracked and thats what im looking to do. just want to touch base with those who know their way around the disassembly. just joined so i have to setup my userCP and sig.

truck is a 97 SS/T with a few mods.
engine has been rebuilt in nov 09, punched out .030"
i ported the heads, nothing too in depth just bowl work and some blending
jba shorties
modified stock Y pipe, dual exhaust
im not going to change anything more until i can tune it safely.

Thanks!

What you got against Hemifever and his SCT Tuners?

all i got was stated in my opening post. not looking for a mail order tune at a premium price. ive messed with the PRP stuff on a friends dak r/t and wasnt impressed, not for an 800 dollar pricetag with no way of datalogging with SCT. i know things have changed but i have no interest in signing a legal document to buy hardware/software for tuning.

There's this one. TunerCat. 300 bucks, can't change VIN.

VCM suite. 500 bucks though.... Pro version, which also supports wide band O2 sensors, EGT, and such, is 649.00.....

There are others, and they all have their good points and bad points. I found some that were over 2 grand as well.... but, I am thinkin most folks won't have much desire to go there.

HeyYou, thanks for listing those options. Was looking a bit at TunerCat. It seems that TunerCat did not specifically support any Dodge or Ford PCMs, only GM related models. Might make it tougher to use for us Dodge folks.

Any other options for the novice Dodge self-tuner with a laptop that's willing to do some careful experimentation?
