Have a look under there, and see if anything is obvious, may have broke a mount or some such.

I did it on my 92 before.. Nothing ever came of it.. I was coasting down a hill and forgot I already put it in neutral.. Pushed it up into reverse and it just shut off.. I threw it back into neutral and coasted to a stop.. Everything was good for a year or 2 until I blew the trans apart.... You can also check the snap ring on the tcase on top of everything else already mentioned.

Did the same thing in my old car. It was wanting to stall out so I went to put into neutral to try and get it to smooth out. At the same time I went to neutral I hit the gas. Well, that happened right as I hit a bump so it jerked my hand and I ended up hitting reverse just as I hit the gas. Was doing about 50-55mph. It gave a squeel from the tires (was rear wheel drive) then stalled. Luckely no damage.

Anyway, Id take a look for a bad ujoint or something obvious before dropping the pan.

Hadn't thought of mounts. I will check!

I dread the snap ring failure. lol
What did the trans do? Or what were you doing?

I am going to look at the ujoints when the weather is a bit more stable. Freaking windy outside. lol

Thanks for the advice guys, I will keep an eye on all this. Strangely, the steering gear hasn't leaked anymore. I drove it several times yesterday and it's still wet, but the level hasn't dropped. Weird.

MythBuster's did this test years back, with an automatic and a manual transmission, they couldn't grenade either transmission...

Dude, they weren't trying to grenade the trans, there were trying to get the u-joints to snap and flip the car over.

But since they were using a Plymouth, they had to modify the u-joints to break.

I do still have reverse, and no slippage minus the cold slip is has because of fluid.

No support bearing.

The thing that bothers me is the thunk I feel at about 25 mph when letting of the gas...

Just a guess, but I'm gonna say the shifter was accidently pushed a lil past neutral just enough to engage the reverse gear.
