Default Exhaust question

I want to install pacesetter long headers and magnaflow exhaust on my 97 ram 1500. Will I need a new catalytic converter or can i connect the headers to one side and the exhaust to the other of the current converter? Anyone done this before and have and warnings, tips or thoughts?
Thanks

Nope, you will need a different converter, as plumbing pipes to the stocker will be darn near impossible.

Get the headers, and the pacesetter y-pipe as well, you can chop a section out of the y-pipe, and put a single in/single out cat in there, and still be able to install both O2 sensors. (and have a single outlet exhaust.)

incorrect... no need to chop up the pacesetter y-pipe. just weld a si/so cat onto the end of it.

like so...........

the pipe welded onto the cat after the y-pipe is some pipe i got from a friend. so as stated, with proof, no need to chop it up.

on an exhaust system and all other threads on he bottom of the truck, use anti-size compound on ALL bolt threads. do NOT use cad plated bolts, the plating will come off and jam the threads. and tighten the bolts holding the exhaust manifold to 80-70% of full torque the first time, after 5-6 heat cycles take to full torque. if they leek go a head to full torque. this lets them seat in.
