Default Rearend...2nd to 3rd Gen. question...

Hello all. Well I just blew the rearend out of my 2001 1500 5.9 4x4. possible it tore up the housing besides gears so looking at a full rearend swap. Would love to upsize gears and a locker while i am doing it but cash isnt going to allow that right now. Wondering if the rearend out of a 2001.5 or newer would bolt right in so that I could gain the rear disc brakes. Would really appreciate any opinions or information...

The rear disc brakes will not clear the 16" wheel. Been there tried that idea a few years ago.

Then that would work onto the next issue and that is the shock brackets are not the same, and I think there is a spring perch width issue as well, not 100% sure on that one.

Looks like a bigger 4wd truck in the one pix if that's your rig I would look hard at installing a set of Dana 60's.

sorry was in the process of changing my garage and had forgotten about the avatars and the signature pics...Loved the black truck and had her about all done upgrading and then $11,000...would love to upgrade to 60's but that would be a bit to much $ at this time, wasnt planning on this repair so just need to get it back on the road right now. I know the 60's created a spring/pech issue but didnt know the 3rd gen made that change to...will have to look into the shock mount issue, was hoping maybe it wouldnt be a big deal using a 3rd gen 1500 rear...

I will get some, been so cold here and busy the last two days since it went havent gotten it apart yet. pinion is visibly angled and the rear diff sounds like ice in a blender when we moved it

Time for a replacement methinks. Going to be cheaper to pick up a used one, than to fix the one in there. Might be able to find one with lower gears, and a posi.... if you are REALLY lucky.

part of what I would like but that would mean time and money to match the front, which are both in short demand right now

See if you can find a parts truck? ORE would have what you wanted. Rare as hens teeth though.
