HeyYou, thanks for the info. The transmission starting shifting on it's own yesterday. Drove it around my neighborhood and it hung up in first gear. Got it home and checked the fluid level. I topped it off and everything starting working. I'm just now seeing your reply. So I will check t.v. adjustment shortly. It holds out in gear for a little too long before shifting into 3rd. Other than that it works and accelerates great. Thanks to this forum, I was able to diagnose and repair my truck myself. Thanks again.

Now, somewhere on here I read a thread on how to diagnose the front axle not engaging when put in 4wd. I think it in an unrelated post, but I dont remember which one.

Try this:

Disconnect 8 pin connector about halfway back on the trans, drivers side.
Take truck for short test drive. You will have to shift gears manually, as there will be zero automatic function.
If the truck shifts nice, when you tell it to, replace governor pressure sensor and solenoid.
If it doesn't, it's rebuild time.
can anyone get me these part numbers?

there are no codes on

breakdown is as so.
speed sensor on top of the diff went bad so I replaced it. When I left the shop for about 15 seconds I was stuck in first gear (that has never ever happened) then it shifted hard and ran good. I got home shut it off and then I left about 2 hours later and was stuck in first again this time I got an engine light for a vss. Output on the trans. I then bought one and replaced it. The light went away but the truck still wouldn’t shift at all.

so following this thread I disconnected the 8 pin plug and wallah manually shifting it shifts perfect 1-3
plugged it back in and I’m back to stuck in first even when trying to manually shift

What year is your truck? 2 or 4 wheel drive?

Ok, so, you should have the VSS in the output shaft hosing of the T-case. Thats where the PCM gets its speed reference from. The sensor on the rear diff is just for the ABS.

Does your speedometer work?

yes my speedometer works. I’ve tried unplugging vss made no difference plugged back in same with abs sensor just to see if it made any difference it did not.

so the only thing that worked was unplugging the 8 pin connector only then will the truck shift manually and shifts smooth as butter full power etc.
