Hmmm, depends on the vehicle i guess, I know a some snow birds that flat tow vehicles from Canada to AZ every year and this is the method they use, they have had no issues. And it was suggested by the dealer when they decided not to have a circulating pump installed.
I guess different vehicles may or may not.

I may have a problem using a dolly. My dad doesn't think it will fit on a dolly. It's an 83 s10 on Dana 60s on stock tires for towing. The owner is going to get me measurements.

Even with stock tires on that rig I would not tow it with a dolly, just my op but trailer that thing.

Seconded.

With those tires, it is probably going to be two wide in any event.

I was talking to my uncle today who used to be in the trucking business and he said whether I tow it with my truck or a 1 ton diesel, it doesn't matter because it is still illegal without an ontario yellow safety sticker. Apparently, unless you have the yellow sticker regardless of your towing capacity, your max weight including loaded trailer cannot exceed 4500kg (9200lbs) at the scales.

Sounds like you need a Yellow Safety Sticker and you need to avoid the scales!
