Default Ticking during accel

Enough to drive any man insane!

Only when I give it gas can I hear it-it is like an old kitchen timer clicking away...

Any thoughts, ideas or remedies?

Maybe an exhaust manifold leak? Is it on hard accel or any rpm increase?

Lighter oil would make lifter tick worse, if that's what it is. Could also be a exhaust manifold leak.

Just replace U joints a few weeks ago- ( for a different noise...)

Sounds generic but from behind dash/driver side engine compartment-
