How are you getting 27 volts from a 12 volt system? Negative test lead to ground, positive test lead to heater lead. You should have the engine running, Reason: If you leave the ignition on(key on) after a few seconds the PCM will shut off the ASD relay and you will loose power. If you have the test leads hooked up then turn the key on you get the reading. If you don't know what lead is what look in the service manual here. You can remove the 02 sensor plug you are only testing for power.
14.17 volts on connector side of truck engine running, both o2 sensors, same voltage as battery

The truck runs way better with both o2 sensors unplugged it even idles better alot more pep in the step. Deleted the previous codes before going for another test drive the only codes that came up were PO138, PO132 high voltage on both sensor which i assume is to be expected with them being unplugged..

i cross refrenced the number from mopar parts manual an the one i bought for the rear is slightly bigger than the one that is currently in the rear( i did non fouler a couple years back an drilled out the non foulers to fit that specific o2 sensor) which is odd to me that the replacement doesnt fit right into place so... 1 of 2 things went on there the sensor that is currently in there is "wrong" or the sensor i recently bought is "wrong"

begs the question if the rear o2 is faulty would that throw a code for the front as well with it thinking he front o2 sensor isnt doing its job correctly?

Depends on what is going on. You are getting heater circuit failures, if the heater circuit shorts to the sensor circuit, yeah, that causes issues.

Are you getting 12 volts on the heater circuits with the engine running?

Are you meaning 12 volts while connected? Like back probe connector with engine running?
i did check voltage on truck side of connector an got 14.7 volts with the engine running.

You can do it either way. If you are seeing the correct voltage, then that part of the circuit is working properly. And yep, 14.7 while running is indeed correct. (as that is also the voltage the battery should be seeing from the alternator.)

Next trick is to see what voltage the PCM is seeing on the signal return side of the circuit. Should bounce between .1 to .9 volts. Need a scanner for that though.

Got another set of non foulers to through into the rear 02 bung, installed new sensor in the rear for a total of 2 new o2 sensors both of them being denso.
good news is i am down to one code now haha PO132 high voltage bank 1 sensor 1 (front i believe) i am sort of stumped now would that indicate i have a faulty sensor right out of the box?
Ill have a chance to review data with a scanner in the next day or two. For now i am going to run with the o2's unplugged to avoid the spittin and sputterin.

P0132 O2 Sensor 1/1 Circuit Voltage High
Did you clear ALL the codes after you put the new 02's in? Pcm is seeing too high of a reading setting the code. And yes front sensor.

I cleared the codes before i unplugged the o2s orginally to see what codes would come up with no o2s. Those codes were stored up until i cleared them, Before i started the install of new o2 i disconnected battery an followed up with code reader ( got no codes at all).
After letting it idle for 5 minutes took it for a drive and got a couple blocks away before the CEL came back on

Alright guys with my dailys frame is being replaced and out of commission for 1-2 months. I had to fire up the old beast that only gets driven 8-10 times a year my 98 2500

Anyway 6 short years later while dailying the dodge I am reminded of this great community as well as this issue that has come back to haunt me that started this thread to begin with.

Answer coming soon! The truck is going to a certified mechanic (which I am not) for the solve all. I can no longer daily this truck with this outrageous fuel consumption. I hope it isnt an issue with admin to realive this thread to attach an answer...
