My 96 ram just had a successful plenum repair job, now my next question arises about the shifting pattern. Going up hills is not a problem for the engine anymore except its still having issues shifting to a higher gear when i give her more gas. The RPMs spike and then drop when i lay off the gas (at 1/4 throttle). Basically, it'll stay in 2nd gear until i move off the gas. Also on regular flat land i feel like she shifts too early into overdrive.
Now with the question, is the solenoid the issue? or is there another issue i could be blind to? Thank you.
Trans was serviced with new oil and filter about 5 months ago. The tires on the thing are smaller than stock 16s. The wheel is 15 with 30 x 9.5 not sure if that will affect the gearing so much that it would cause the trans to be funky.
Ooops. Got a drain plug on your trans pan? You could probably re-use the fluid, but, I would suggest adjusting the bands.
Haha I thought about making a drain plug but no. I can still collect the oil some creative way, now where can i learn to do a band job and to do it correctly?
Procedure is in the service manual. It's actually easy. (once you get in there....) Just back off the jam nuts, torque the adjuster screws to 72 INCH pounds, then, back them off two turns. (ignore the specs in the service manual) tighten the jam nuts back down. Put it all back together.
Be warned, one of the adjusters is INSIDE the trans... and can be fun to get to. I think the manual wants you to drop the valve body to get to it. I really don't know if that is absolutely necessary. Taste and see.
