Those flywheel bolts look excessively long..... The short ones will work just fine. I suspect the long ones are for a manual trans flywheel.

Use the sensors off your original motor. At least you know they all work.

Use your originals. Clean 'em if you have the facilities to do so.

Roger that! I pulled the thermo housing and found a damaged thermostat and what looks like watery oil, maybe. you can see it on the bottom of it.

The spring was cockeyed and you can see that milky residue on the bottom of it.

Looks like the lroblems never end!? That jacked up thermostat stuck and over heated the donor engine. word to the wise? next time you look at buy n a used engine. if the oil and the antifreeze is fresh. turn around and walk away. new fluids are usually hiding some problem. when i pulled the thermostat there was oily water in the manifold. So upon further review this morning. i discovered a rusty spark plug hole. cylinder #5. same one that popped on my original engine. the head bolts are rusty on the driver side of the engine and the passenger side looks brand new! son of a bit*h!!! This truck is destined for the smasher!! gonna do a compression test while the engine is still out of the truck.

If you zoom in on this photo you can see the oily residue!! Time to take a page outta Roadkill garage! Dump a can of some head gasket sealer in it!!!

Well, it wouldn't be too bad to do head gaskets while the engine is on a stand..... you already have a fair bit of time, money, and effort into it. Do ya really wanna flush all that down the toilet?

Is it necessary to put oil in the engine before comp test?

Should there be oil in the engine before compression test?
