Default Transmission.... again.

Ok hi all I’ve posted here a hundred times solely on just my transmission. So I have a 98 Dodge Ram 5.9 1500 4wd. I had gotten water into it and needed to replace it. So I went and got a 98 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 2wd transmission and put it in. I used the same flywheel as the one off my 5.9, but used the same torque converter from the 5.2 transmission. I also swapped the tail shaft, from my 4wd to the 2wd. So now the problem I’m having, the transmission is full, with new filter, and clean looking fluid, if I put it in revers it works perfect. If it put it in drive it will only stay in first it won’t shift. If I try to manually do it, it’s the same thing. So when I drive and get the rpm up in DRIVE and down shift to “first” it feels like it “downshifts” but I believe it’s just catching rpm again. So any help would be great, I’d really not like to have to replace the trans or rebuild it. So any helps appreciated and will make life easier.

I didn’t feel the kick down cable jammed up, I don’t see a trans temp light and I haven’t seen any codes but I also don’t have a scanner or a way to get one since I’m out in the country.

I don't remember if the key dance works on the 98 trucks.... could give it a shot, and see what happens. If it actually works, I think it displays codes on the odometer.

Just because the lite ain't on, doesn't mean there aren't any codes.

On, off, on, off, on..... watch the odometer. Don't start the truck. Just cycle the key three times, and leave it on. It may not do anything at all. I just don't remember.

Yeah. Not surprised. Was worth a shot though.

Was there just an adapter between the O/D housing, and t-case, or did you have to re-use the O/D unit as well?

I used the tail shaft as the one that came out of my truck. Put it on the donor. It bolted right up to my existing transfer case

Ok, so I dropped the pan and saw a broke shim or something that sits on top of a spring, below an arm. I’m not exactly what it is or does, maybe an issue? Anyone know what the shin circled is? Maybe easy fix?
