Default Rear leafs on 1500

Hey everyone I am trying to figure out how many leafs does your stock dodge have in the back? Mine is a 2001 1500 and it seems to ride pretty stiff in the back! I got 4 leafs not counting the carrier leaf! Thanks alot!

That is the standard leaf pack. Your rough ride is from the stacked blocks for the lift.

Haha, what??? Blocks have nothing to do with suspension. Good grief.

There were two load ratings for half tons: 1705lb = 4 leaf and 2025 = 5 leaf.

I have the former, OP has the latter. If you want a softer ride, either lower the PSI in the tires (make sure they are around 35 no matter the rating) and/or install better shocks.

2 blocks will cause a stiffer ride. I also have 6 leads that are 3" wide. But hey what do I know, only been designing suspension systems for a few years.

Blocks give the axle a longer lever arm to affect the suspension. One of the reasons I was never a fan. Of course, the overload spring doesn't make it ride any nicer either.

Is there any negative effects from taking out the overload leaf? Also what do you mean by shackle flip??

If you haul heavy stuff regularly, leave the overload leaf in there.

Currently, your rear spring shackle is below the spring eye, shackle flip puts it above the spring, thus, lower the axle a few inches, and eliminating the need for the blocks.
