One of 'em ain't workin' right..... How often do you want to go in there to fix the problem? If the OSS has been replaced already, you can probably skip that one. Besides, it's on the outside of the trans, so, easy to change whenever they need strikes you.

How would the OSS mess with shifting though? Isn't it for calculating your speed with different tire sizes?

Nope, it simply monitors trans output speed. Everything the system reads for vehicle speed is before the tires, that's why when you change tire size, you need to clue in the PCM. (98 and later) On the 97 and older trucks, there is an actual VSS in the tailshaft housing of the trans, or t-case, depending on how many drive wheels you have. OSS clues the PCM in to what it needs to do with governor pressure.

Unplug the 8 pin connector on the drivers side of the trans. Go for a drive, keeping in mind that you will have ZERO automatic function. So, start in first, and up/down shift as required. Also, you won't get O/D, or TCC. If the trans goes into the gear you tell it to, when you tell it to, its an electrical problem. If not..... well, time to drop the trans again.
