I didn't read any posts in this thread but that is the cleanest looking engine bay I have seen on a 2nd generation ram.....or most 3rd generations for that matter.
I assume you are talking about silver's . And some will fit your truck and some won't, you have to watch out for certain bases that are taller than others. The original one I got was too tall to fit in with the 3" filter, but then I picked up the Mr. Gasket #1480 I believe and it came out to be a whole inch shorter, fitting in perfectly and not touching anything. Just be sure to get a breather for the valve cover, don't trouble yourself with the vacuum nipple and fitting the hose on it. Looks better without it too. If the one you get does have an opening already in it, do what Ash recommended to me, put some sort of rubber cap to cover it up, with maybe a similar color zip tie so you don't notice it.

The one I have should fit your '98 no problem, same as it fits mine.

Yeah most the 2nd generation 318 and 360 intakes are interchangeable so these should work on your 99. If my 98 wasn't all dirty and muddy all the time I would do some of that stuff to clean up the look of the engine bay and yes sir, I was talking about silvers.

Thanks. It really doesn't look like that all the time.

I have been reading this post for a couple of days and you guys have me very interested. I have tried to read everyones response but I want to do this mod tonight so I want to make sure I have everything I need to know.

What I am asking is
[ol][*]What K&N filter did you get (from what vehicle or a part #)[*]Did you get the base/adapter at the autoparts store also[*]The hose going to the air filter assembly now...I have read where guys have just put the breather type on it instead, is this better, the same,or worse[*]Is there anything I need to know besides the basics and cutting the screw[/ol]
You guys are all great I can't go one day without reading this forum....makes me glad to be a Dodge Owner.

Thank Brad

1) If your planning to use the Mopar kit that I bought, the K&N filter you will need to use is 1530 or 1535, depending on how tall you want to go. 1530 is 2.75" tall, 1535 is 2.87" tall. They are both 12.50" diameter. The paper filter that comes with the kit is 12.75" diameter, but K&N does not make a filter in that size that is tall enough. I tried a K&N 13" diameter, and it was too big in diameter. So the 12.50" is your next best bet. If you are using the kits that others are using (Edelbrock, Mr. Gasket, etc...), you will need a K&N filter that is 14" diameter (not sure what the part number is on that).

2) The kit that I bought comes with everything you need (lid, filter, and base). You just need to fab an s-bolt and do a stand-alone breather on the valve cover.

3) Better how? It is really no different except the vented air coming out of the valve covers is not getting redirected back into the intake. You will see no significant difference doing it this way. Personally, I think it keeps the hot air in the valve covers from being put back into the the intake, which would be a good thing. I think the stock setup redirects it back into the intake for emissions reasons.

4) Everything you need to know should be covered in this thread.

Good luck, and post pictures if you put one on.

Thank you Silver_Dodge that is perfect info. For anyone using the 14" air cleaner what K&N filter did you use?

I will post pics as soon as I get done.

It looks great. I've got a little better throttle response in the low to mid range. My milage may be a bit better, but it's definitely no worse off. All in all I'm very happy with the Mopar Air Cleaner.
