I would say it'd be ok, I had a foam filter on a bike for a long time with no problems

I have that one for sale in the for sale section for $25 shipped.

Heyeverybody,

First time poster, long time lurker. Love this forum, especially the DIY posts, and the genius ideas some of y'all come up with!

Iadded the sameACto my 2001 5.2L 1500 that Silver_Dodge did and got the same kind of whistling sound that Racinfan83 might have been complaining about. Not the sucking sound, this was a higher pitched, cuts-right-to-the-inner-ear sucking noise. I was pretty sure that couldn't be right, as I couldn't imagine anybody fighting through that for long. Here's how I fixed it:

I used to have a K&N drop in filter in the stock AC that I remembered came with a tube of sealing grease. I ran a bead of that stuff around the top and bottom of the round filter at the highest point on the rubber gasket and set it filter back into the setup. I also thought the gap between the s-bolt and Mopar cover was a little too wide to be sealed by just tightening down the wingnut,so I went to the Home Depot and bought a box of ten Danco 1/2 flat faucet washers (3/4" OD, part# 88577 ), for about $1.50. I just replaced the sink and faucet in the house last week and that gave me the idea to use those. The ID on the washers was 1/8" so I drilled them out to 1/4" and placed it over the s-bolt between the Mopar cover and the wingnut, and tighten the wingnut down really snug. Took it out for a spin and NO WHISTLE! I still get a suction sound on start up and about 1700rpm, but no where near theirritation levelit was previously. As an added bonus I can hear the piston firing action a little better from the new filter setup!

Just a thought for anyone that encountered this issue, as it seems a lot of folks have tried this mod to their AC and might have had the same problem I did. If you're leaking at the throttle/AC gasket you might be able to try a verythin filmof grease on the gasket as well, although a new gasket might be the better way to go.

Do you know anything about FRAM boost air intake systems. I have a friend that swears that they are the best. He drives the same truck as I, but a year older. He just ordered it, and im thinking of doing the same but if theres anything better im willing to prove him wrong

I doubt it. Why would you want a spacer though?
