Which cam to choose? Here we go
For Superchips and other handheld tuning without a custom tune. 206 cams and HO cams are the way to go. HO cams are a directs swap, 206 cams require lash caps.
For cutsom tuning, like SCT 212, 212X and 218 grinds. They require lash caps and High Load beehive springs are recommended. These cam grinds are designed to get the max out of a naturally aspirated 4.7L. A tune is a must with anything 212 and higher.
Then you have the Boost grind cams. They come in 224 and there are a couple of different options to choose from. They require everything the 212s do and require turbo/blower boost pressure for power gain.
Watson Performance is also researching billet camshafts. These will be true core and not HO cam regrinds. They are experimenting with up to a 236 boost only cam.

I've got a set of 212x's in an otherwise mildly modified 2000 4.7, and to be honest, I was rather disserpionted at the difference they made. They gave a bit more at the top end but lost torque at the bottom end. Enough for me to get a high(er) stall converter (aprox. 2400rpm), which made a big difference. I've done all (I think!) the usual little mods but the cams are the only things that's had the engine apart. I've just received a brand new '05 inlet manifold to go on as well.
I first used a Superchips programmer and have now got a SRC with just "can" tunes. Its better but I think its now time to get some custom tunes on it! Hopefully these mods will release the full potential of the cams.
Unfortunately, its still running the 3.55 gears and as its 4WD, it will be expensive to change them. If I were to change them, which size would you recommend? Its my daily drive and I do quite a lot of highway miles as well as sometimes towing a 2000 pound trailer.

go with 4.10's, rip out the front driveshaft if you can get around in the winter with out it and then you wont have to worry about the front diff. well you have AWD so i dunno if that would still work but i know it would work for just a normal 4x4.
