Got the SPAL V3 and HHR Fan installed. Thanks for all the input here from you folks, the setup seems to work well!

The only thing I did different was utilized the SPAL Temp sender and screwed it in the hole on the right where the upper rad hose is.

What are you SPAL guys doing for low and high temp settings? How are you measuring temp? Via OBD tool?

Does your SPAL / HHR setup basically just stay running even during idle or does your fan cycle from high to lower speeds?

In my case during idle (after warming up) my fan kicks on and slowly ramps up to high speed and stays there indefinitely. The fan never slows back down. I was assuming the fan system would eventually shut off after engine temp was lowered. Or at the very least slow the fan down. What are you other SPAL/HHR guys experiencing?

I left mine at the stock setting of 160°. Your fan is likley staying on because the ac is on.

The blue/green wire at the top is where the ac referance comes from. I used a mini fuse tap.

I know I'm bringing this back up, but after looking at the fuse it is linked to my relay is for the fuel pump? I'm going to assume I should put it on the prong for the A/C Compressor correct?

You should never use current from the fuel pump. Doing so may cause may starve the pump of power and cause severe driveability problems.

I put the a/c referance on the clutch so the fan would always power on when I turned tge ac on.

Yea, thats where I have it now, but I saw that they were referencing the relay, I thought it might be better there, but I'll just leave it as it is.

Thanks.

I have a 180 t-stat so mine comes on at 180. I tied into the stock temp sensor and I use the dash temp gauge. It sits in the same spot as before. Mine comes on at low speed but goes to high speed pretty soon after that and normally just stays at high speed all the time. with or without the compressor running. Thing that bugs me is if I have the key on acc for some reason, say wanting to listen to the radio or something, the fan comes on if the engine is still hot. I guess it's the way it is wired it does not know if the engine is running or not, just that the temps require it to be running.

I also have the 180 stat. I went with what Blown had said he had his at; 1/8 low, 1/4 high. Mine sits around the same place as it did before, but it isn't as hot as it normally is here in Florida.

The only time it rises to about the 1/2 mark is when I push her really hard, but that isn't very often.

How did everyone seal around the edges of the fan? I've seen people use weather stripping, but wanted some ideas?

I used weather strip on the upper and lower edges where it touches the radiator. I also made some strips of cardboard to cover the gap on both sides but didn't notice a differance in performance.
