Default Click in steering wheel

Hey guys,

Im checking to see if anyone has a click in there wheel when they turn the wheel back and forth slightly. Its only noticable when in a parking space, and a slight slope with the truck facing upwards. The truck doesnt do it on flat ground or facing down. Its just one click, not a constant clicking.

I was thinking the intermediate shaft, but there is no noise/play under the hood. The wheel is tight, there is just a click. It feels like a joint has gone bad, but its only in the cab. Anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong, or if this is normal? I did just have the leveling kit installed, so Im not sure if that changed angles enough to cause this.

Thanks for any insight.

If thats what it is, I can get a brand new shaft on eBay for under $200. Eimer swapped his out ..... I dont think it was fun but it is doable. Does anyone know if I can diagnose it to be the shaft?

Just pull it out.. It very simple. I struggled due to working on the lawn. If I had to ever re-due the process I would have got my impact out and used some extensions. Its not fun to wrench it out.

All you have to do is remove two bolts. It can only be installed one way due to a notch in the shafts that the bolts go through.

I would guess the removal and install would take like 30 mins If i had to do it again.

I bought mine on ebay for $168. Dealership wanted over $300. Make sure you order the V2 shaft. Its much larger with bigger U-joints. You will also need 2 new pinch bolts. Its not a good idea to reuse the old ones. Also PB blast those bolts before.

You can try getting some liquid aerosol grease and spray down the u-joints to see if the click goes away. The liquid grease will probably reduce the life of the u-joints so its a catch 22 if it does not fix the issue.

I get a random airbag light every 10k miles or so, but its due to the dash loosing communication with the PCM. Its wierd.

Did you say you had to cut your fender wall too, Reid? I may just hold out a little to see if it gets worse. But if all it will cost is $200 for a new shaft and I can do it myself, Im not going to lose sleep over it.

Well yea i did cut a like 2" by 3" section but that was only because I had to drill the bolt out and needed a straight on shot because it was so rusted in there. I sanded the part I cut out and took a torch to melt it flat. No one will ever know it wasn't like that.

Well Im happy its not in the actual wheel; that would be an expensive fix.

Ill be ordering a new shaft this week or next probably. Looking at it, I should be able to manuvre around everything in there with my dad's collection of extentions.
