Throttle body upgrade
I have a 2005 dakota with the 4.7. If I'm not mistaken I think the stock throttle body is a 68mm. Has anybody upgraded their throttle body. If I was going to upgrade I would go to a 70 or 72mm. Can this engine handle this upgrade. Meaning will the engine still have the same life span and does it effect the gas mileage. Need some good feedback have not work with throttle body before, just do not know enough about them.
I have the Hipotek 70mm, worth every penny, direct simple DIY swap

- Engine life should not be altered.
- 72mm is not needed engine can only suck so much air
- Gas millage will be effected. you will have more power and want to hit the stupid pedal more, which will decrease MPG
amen to that. 11.5 since my superchips and exhaust... lol. 15 prior.
as stated, your mileage will suffer because you wont be able to stay out of the gas. Like a CAI, performance exhaust or superchips. You would expect to see (and they even claim) increased MPG's, but it just sounds too good and feels too good to drive like grandma....so your mileage will actually decrease. Simply by driving habits, not becasuse of the throttle body itself. I have the Hipotek as well and highly recommend it.
Love my fastman 70 mm, perfect match for my nitrous system, easy 15 minute install

I have the Hipotek 68.5mm on mine. 65.5mm is the stock bore if you take in account the taper in the bore that Hiptek and Fastman take away. Its supposed to be a +1RWHP at the wheels in the high revs by going up to a 71mm throttle body from a 68.5mm, with the sacrifice of some torque. IMHO, a 68.5mm is the way to go without losing bottom end. I like Hipotek because of endless idle issues with the two Fastmans I tried. Dan @ Fastman will refuse to do anything to fix the idle issue if you experience it, and will keep claiming that the engine needs to relearn the air flow. I bolted on my Hipotek, and lit up the tires right out of the driveway without ever doing an idle learn procedure or letting the PCM relearn. I haven't heard of any problems from anyone with a Hipotek.
