Default Gain Setting

Is a simple factory type amp. It has no settings of any kind.

Check this link. That is why I asked about the factory amp.

Just swapped in the stealthbox and the JL XD 600/1 amp yesterday. Also used JL's remote level control for the amp. Tied into the factory sub wiring for input. It's dual voice coil so you grab all 4 wires, convert to RCA low level and done. The brackets JL give you didn't work for me. Not sure if my floor cover is newer than the 11 they used for mock up. Had to rig something of my own. Crutchfield is doing a discount if you buy a JL amp and Stealthbox together. 10% off the box and 15% off the amp. Anyways, it sounds much better but surprisingly not as good as the Stealthbox I had in my wife's 08 Grand Cherokee Overland.

Isnt the stealth box still covered by the same cover as the factory sub??

That cover block SO much of the sound. Even with the factory 8" just take off that cover some day and listen. it makes a huge difference.

It is, but it sounds exactly the same with the cover and without. The problem is not with the quantity of sound, it's with the quality of sound.

Default removing the cover

How did you remover the cover? What size sub will fit in there (dimensions beyond the 8" dia). Thanks so much, Joe.

Add me to the list of people who think the Alpine stereo in the Durango sounds average. I just totaled my 2008 GMC Sierra Denali two weeks ago, but it had a Bose system in it than ran circles around the Alpine. I'm interested in trying out the lowering-the-midrange trick to see if that helps. This is my first-ever Dodge product, so wish me luck!
