Default I have a new problem...

I'm trying to figure this out and maybe someone has experienced this on their Gen3 Durango...
I had the TIPM problem and the dealer (after a lot of work with Chrysler on my part) replaced it for $200. Truck ran good for about another year and just the other day we shut it off and it would not start again. No, not a battery or key fob thing either. I am wondering if it is a TIPM again? Dash is lighting up like a Christmas tree but starter not cranking. I'm baffled. Anyone???

Sounds like the security module. If you have push button ignition you should be able to pop the button out and place the fob in the dash.

If you attempt to start and the key is 'wrong' it should display 'Wrong Key' - I've done this before when I stuck my DD key in my Charger ignition.

If you can turn the ignition circuit to 'ON', but the vehicle still won't start - Can you hear the external fuel relay activate? Can you hear the fuel pump?

Thanks for the response. The thing is, I had the TIPM problem and when that was going on I was able to crank the engine. I cant hear the fuel pump but will try again. This new thing doesn't engage power to the starter. We do have the push button start and I remove it and manually override it but no change in outcome. I'm actually hoping for the TIPM to be the issue again because now there is an official recall on the 2012's (I think).

I have a 2012 Durango R/T with the same issue. I drove around with a data recorder from the dealer and actually recorded a stall event. The dealer can't figure it out but thankfully its under the extended warranty ($100 deductible). It's been at the dealer for the past couple of weeks now and I'll bring this post to the tech. Keeping fingers crossed!

Hey pm2012rt,

So what are the conditions for this? My 2012 R/T hasn't had ant issues for 93K miles. Two weeks ago, I had the check engine and traction control off warning lights come on. I had the code read and I'd said cam position sensor. So, I replaced it. A couple days later the check engine light goes out. The TC light went out as well. A week goes by and I think I'm good. Then two days ago, both lights come on again. On my way home, the warning lights light up like a Christmas tree and all throttle response is gone. Engine light, TC, the other TC (w/o the Off under it, next to the TC off light), a service awd light, some flashing red lightning bolt, think that's it. So I pull over and shut it off. Restart it, alls well and go home. Get home and shut it off. Start it up again and Christmas lights. Oh, and cranked quite a bit before it started, which it has never done.

I call the dealer and I am 2 weeks outside of warranty (bought it Dec 2016). Thoughts, outside of me being screwed?? They told me there is no outstanding recalls on it and no TIPM recall for my D...

Other thoughts: maybe my Hypertech went stupid? Anyone have this happen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First pull the Hypertech tune and get it back to stock and pull the negative battery cable and reset the ECU. After that then you can rule out the Hypertech and go from there. Hopefully that is the cause of your problem and you will be good. If not I'm guessing you might need a new ECU or some other sensor. Good luck!

Hi salrt,

If you want to stay up-to-date with any recall information, you can always check recalls.mopar.com, and that will show you any completed or open recalls. If you still would like to visit your dealership for full diagnostics and need any assistance, let me know in a PM with your VIN.

Default 2013 key starting problem

My wife drives our 2013 Durango and for the last 2-3 days I noticed that when I put the key in to start the card it take at least 15sec for it to start. Any ideas what the problem is? Needing a new battery in the key or is it something else. Thanks
