K&N on my '03 5.7l. definatly noticed an improvement, I ended up with a gain of 1-1.5mpg, and the mpg stayed more consistent (according to the hud) then with stock where i found it to flucuate from one day to the next.

It's not ''for'' anything, It is a wire hooked too your air temperature sensor. It fools your pcm into thinking your air temp is cooler than it actually is. This set up allows more fuel into the throttle body at wot. Increasing your horsepower. It's a modest gain at best. But a gain all the same. It will not harm your motor in any way.
You do not need it for a cai. but it wouldn't hurt. If you want increased horsepower. And you do , hence the cai. I have them for sale , pm me I only have a few left.

There are 2 wires that lead into the sensor,You snip, strip and crimp the power wire in place. Either wire, it makes no difference. The ends are male/female. Too return too stock if need be. here is a pick.

Thats a great price for a cai, I mght jump on that! A little high too ship. Hmmmmm. I dunno bout that.It also has no place to protect it from the elements. I have a box that protects from hydro shock. If your not heading to the track and thats it. It would be great, but I'm a dd. I need the added protection of a cai box. like mine,
