Sorry I've not posted in a few days; my water heater decided it didn't want to hold water any longer so I've been researching tankless heaters and just had my Navien CR-210A installation finished today. Not to mention my oldest daughter's getting married next Sunday and I still have to design and print the seating cards.

Anyway here's my testing notes on the latest Beta release:

Flashpaq 3865 Beta V1.18.04 Gas Truck db 009 (Rev B)

These are the settings I have:
Rev Limiter: 6250
Speed Limiter: 140
WOT 1-2: 5700
WOT 2-3: 5750.
My Truck: 2007 RAM 2500HD MegaCab SLT 4x4

Software Update:
I’ve called this new release of 1.18.04 and db 009, “Rev B” because this new release is named exactly as the last beta release and I wanted a way to distinguish between the two. Rev B was released 2009-09-24. Rev B changes in the tables below will be highlighted in green.

The download was a bit deceiving because the update went through both the Version and Database updates but, the new beta was named the same as the previous beta release. During the download my serial number on the Easy Update screen was changed from 1443301 to 64C5E1471739F8D9. Also, “Show Detail” returned, everything is up to date.

A set of Release Notes or a “Change Log” for each beta release would be very helpful for testers as we’ll know what was changed and what to test.

Once I plugged the tuner into my truck, I check my default settings to find Speed Limiter and WOT 1-2 shift point were set to their default values: 106 for speed limiter and 5600 for WOT 1-2 shift point. I returned both to my settings 140 for speed limiter and 5700 for WOT 1-02 shift point before continuing. Shift Schedule was set to “Superchips” as was Torque Management – I returned both to User so I could continue. While Low Shift Schedule and ODrive Off Shift Sch were left at User. All Shift Point User data was erased and set to SC defaults. This was no surprise as it is somewhat expected with beta releases.

Tuner Failures
Unfortunately I ran into three tuner failures, that is, the power down reset issue. The first happened after I had set my user values for Shift Schedule (following top to bottom), through Shift 3dn when it failed when exiting the table to Save and Exit. This is the exact same place for two prior failures.

I turned the truck off and restarted the tune but alas, ALL DATA ENTERED WERE LOST, even though I had saved and exited each shift point prior. I agree with Derek that it is in Non-critical areas but now we’re losing the data we’ve entered. So I started again but, this time after I loaded the Shift * up tables, I chose to Save and Exit from the Shift Schedule to see if all data from 1 up to 4 up would be maintained.

The second failure occurred after reentering the data from Shift 1 up through 5dn 29.80% throttle. Remember, I had saved and exited after completing Shift 4 up tables. That time I Saved and exited all the way back to the Options menu from Performance 91 tune. I turned off the truck and restarted the tune. AGAIN ALL DATA I HAD ENTERED PRIOR WERE LOST.

Well, given this, I chose to perform three tunes since I had no idea where it may fail next. I entered all data for Shift Schedule, Shift 1 up through 4 up and did the first tune. I then re-tuned with entering only the data for Shift Schedule, Shift 5 dn through 2 dn. This too was accomplished without issue.

My next attempt was to retune after modifying only the Torque Management tables. This update progressed without issue – My third pass to complete what should have been one attempt.

The third failure of the tuner occurred while I was collecting data from Low Shift Schedule. When I Save and Exit from Shift 2 dn the tuner failed. I had collected the data from the top of the menu through Shift 2 dn.

All three failures were the same Power-Down Reset I’ve mentioned before.

Miscellaneous:
• The first time I entered the Shift Schedule, Shift 1 Up, %throttle 11.76, the low range value (3.293) was NOT bold but, after exiting and re-entering the value was bolded.

• Sil, my % throttle values for Shift Schedule, Shift 3 Up do NOT match your table, however, all of the other tables match value for value.
Mine: Sil’s
0.00 0.00
8.325 7.451
13.33 14.90
24.70
34.90 33.33
34.90
100.0 100.0

• I tested Sil’s “disappearing duplicate” problem but could NOT reproduce it. I set Shift Schedule, Shift 3 Up, % TP 34.90 to the exact MPH, exited and came back in and both values were present. The same was true for Shift Schedule, Shift 4 dn, 54.90 values.

• We can now view and change ODrive Off Shift Sch, Shift 4 dn, 3dn and 2p dn, however, 2p dn has a major issue with the range values.

Unanswered questions:
• George: Until recently, I assumed that the Low Shift Schedule is for another vehicle, perhaps a Power Wagon. Is this for 4wd Low?
• George: I don't know if this is an issue or not, but it's worth mentioning. In the OD Off Shift Schedule, the shift points closely mirror the shift points set in the regular shift schedule. They're not exact, but they're close enough I leave them alone. The exception to this is 2 UP shift schedule, it has a greater/borderline unacceptable variance. Is this normal? It's not a serious issue, but it is worth mentioning.
• George: 3 DN SUGGESTION- Can we add another TP% shift point between 0% and 31.37% DN?
• George: Is it possible to add more than one User setting? Perhaps User 1, User 2, User 3, etc. Because of the tedious nature of changing every value in every table, it is difficult to make adjustments for daily driving, vs towing, vs wet/wintry weather. I tow frequently and the aggressive shift schedule I set for my base tune will not be appropriate for my transmission while towing. Also, where I live in Virginia it is not uncommon to get a day or tow of icy weather. Similar to towing, aggressive downshifts with 0 torque management will be a disaster in icy weather conditions. If we had ice all winter it wouldn't be a big deal to reprogram, but we typically only get ice 10-15 times a winter on random days. I would hate to have to sit in my truck reprogramming every table for 20 minutes on random days. **Of the two suggestions I have made, this may be the most important/desirable from a functional stand point.** [this author would also find this extremely beneficial.]
• Mark: At idle my tp% is 12% in park and 13% in gear. So my questions is: Does 12% become 0.000% in the tables and I should adjust the rest of the tables appropriately? Otherwise those values below 12% TP will never be reached. Or do the table values take this into account? Is this an issue with DAQ?
• Mark: Likewise the max TP% I can get at WOT is 86%; Are values above 86% unattainable for me? Or, is this a DAQ issue? (The % are what DAQ shows.)

One thing I failed to mention but I feel is an important find in all of this: After I loaded the shift points that George (Rubberfrog) engineered, I filled my truck. It's been a tank full now and I'm seeing an increase of .6MPG and I've put my truck through the paces with these values.

WTG George!

I don't know that it is definite but it had been talked about in the past and Sil has it back in one of the polls, which is how PT shifts and TM adjustments started so I can only hope that the line pressure adjustments make it through.

No date. Beta testers are still encountering some bugs. No way they'll release with bugs that could affect end user and unfortunately, that delays the process.

Ha Ha well, we are having so much success at identifying and adjusting the kinks in the program with the 07-08 betas that it has held up the other years progress.

Hopefully the engineer is wrapping this up and we can continue forward so the 04-06 betas can have a crack at breaking it. LOL

Sorry for the delay!

Jack,

Be careful what you claim publicly on the internet, especially if you work for or with IBM.

Claiming you're a hacker or going to hack a product is not a good thing. You never know when an honest citizen may feel the need to report a claim like the one you've made.

It has been over a year now since SC posted polls on several forums asking for what people would like to see added to SC programming. This came after Diablo released their much anticipated tuner. Since that time SC has released a couple mesely updates none of which have been what the customers have truly wanted. The story remains the same, sorry for the delay, beta testing, busy working on other vehicles, bugs, sorry, sorry, sorry, followed by thousands of teasing crap posts by their b1tch salesman Sil.

Three points here. First, I have run both tuners, Diablo and SC and neither blows the other out of the water in terms of canned tunes. Second, it has not been over a year since the first polls were released about the new features. The polls were first released in Nov 2008. Third, do not come on here and call Sil or anyone else a “bitch”. No matter what you may feel about SC or Sil you have no right to call anyone a “bitch” or anything else. Keep your personal attacks to yourself.

I think of Sil as more of a Pimp than a bitch.
