We are going to be towing a fifth wheel with our 1500 QC 4x4 HEMI, what tune would everyone recommend? I have the 87,89 & o3 tunes, option to shut off MDS, etc. Looking for some recommendations.

Mods include a true dual exhaust from the stock exhaust manifolds/cats back through dual Cherry Bomb Extremem mufflers and a Mopar CAI.

I might be tempted to run the 89 tune with a higher octane fuel, just to guard against Kn.

Thanks, I was thinking at least 89, anyone think its worth 93. Fifth wheel is 8000# fully loaded.

What about transmission settings?

I dont think MDS would ever kick in with pulling such a heavy load would it? Surely the engine load would be too great to let the PCM decide to kick down to 4 cylinders.

I would do minimum 89 octane and keep to OD turned off by pushing the Tow/Haul button. You dont want to damage the trans by towing in OD with a heavy load like that.

I'd up the shift points like1K, but I'm not sure how that effects the tow haul mode though. I'd stay off the 93 tune if your pulling any hills or grades that would cause a high heat condition. Don't forget you can change the tune in less than 10 Min. on the road.

Doubt it would ever kick into MDS unless when coasting downhill :-)

Unfortunately I only have an 87, 91 & 93 performance tune, should I run the 91?

I modified the 87 perf tune by upping all the shift points 400RPM and it felt good (no trailer).

Does anyone know if you can delete the EGR valve with the DSP? Does anyone have a custom tune with this option?

You can get a custom tune that deletes the EGR. They had to remove it from the canned tunes due to federal regulations. Go to their website and inquire in their forum.

Some guys swear a loss of MPG due to no EGR. Are you sure you want to go in that direction?

There is no gain in removing the EGR these days. The PCM adjust around it so there is no power loss or driveability issues. The inert gasses that the EGR introduces to the intake actually cools the combustion chambers to help keep part throttle detonation down.
