Just got a quote from a local shop that specializes in rear ends. Best shop in orange county. Anyway the guy wants $1325 to for a master install kit and trutrac, oil and labor. $425 for labor. This seems a little high but everyone recommends this shop. He very clearly stated that there are NO china parts ever used in his shop and he only gets paid to do it once. he also said that if anything happened to the Trutrac while off-roading, he will tell detroit that is was due to normal driving and that it was a product default. however I off roaded and broke something and it was MY FAULT then he won't do anything. I guess detroit voids warranty if it was offroaded at all which is kind of ironic. They guy did know what he was talking about though.

That seems high. A few years ago we had both axle on a jeep with a rear lock and it was 1400. That was two sets of gears, install kits, front carrier, labor and the locker.

Well.....it sounds like this guy stands by his work and his products.
It all depends on if your happy to pay his price.
If his work is that good, pay up IMHO.

$790

you said 1325 for labor and the gears or 1325 for the parts and 425 for labor? I think 1325 is an alright price total

My local shop charges $600 per axle for gears, master kit & install. So for a 4x4 that would be $1200. Add about $500 for the DTT and you'd be at $1700. For a 4x2 that would be right at about $1100 with DTT. So IMO your guy is a little high, but if he does this kind of work every day and stands behind it, might be worth the extra $...

I bought a kit from Moe's DTT/4:10 using OEM gears and Master install kit $800 and took it to a defunct Dodge dealer. In at 0800, out before lunch, total cost for everything including axle seals (not included in Master install kit) $1300. Install and gears run quiet and cool, perfect. Did a 600 mile check and oil change, everything was as it should have been. IMO,
there maybe are shops that do it cheaper, but for someone not doing gear changes all the time. it worth it to pay a little extra to get it right the first time.

Didn't know that about the axel seals not being included in the master install kit.
I'm having 4:56 gears put in shortly and need a seal for the passenger side rear axle tube. I'll have to source a seal kit now.
Thanks for good the info bud.
