Is anyone running LT285/55R20 BFG A/T KOs on a 3rd gen Ram 1500 4WD? If so, do you have any clearance problems and are you running a leveling kit? I've had good experiences with BFG A/Ts in the past. Also considering Michelin LTX A/T2 (had experiences with LTX M/S in past, high cost but lots of miles). Good prices available on Cooper Zeon LTZs, and they look good, but I'm betting they won't make it to 60K miles. Thank you.

 

You should have no issue running 285/55R20s. They are shorter than factory 275/60R20. They will be about 32.34" tall and 11.2 wide

 

Compared to more of a street-tread OEM 275/60R20, will the LT285/55R20 be obviously shorter, and will the little bit of extra width cause any clearance or rubbing issues?

 

60k is pushing it for any tire

 

I hear you, but I have a set of Cooper ATRs with 55K on them now that should easily go another 15K, and a set of Michelin LTX M/S with 75K miles on them now on our 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD that should go another 10K. The original Goodyears on the Jeep went 80K miles.

I don't push tires too long, either. When Dad was young, his aunt and uncle were killed when their car was hit by a car that hydroplaned due to slick tires, so he has instilled in me the importance of maintaining good tread depth.

It must have to do with the type of miles that we drive - a lot of highway miles per year - and we rotate at least every 6000 miles. Back when I had an '89 Ford F-150 with a 2.5-in suspension lift on that terrible TTB front suspension, I still got 60K miles out of each of two sets of 32x11.50 BFG A/Ts, so I have high expectations for tread life of tires.

 

By the way, Dave-O - your LTZ's look good. How are you liking them, and how are they holding up? What size are they?

 

i have no complaints, they are 275 60 20, no signs of wear, i am happy with them, i've had them for 1.5 years, i did buy another set of tires, but i havent mounted them yet because i might sell my truck, i think i paid around $750 for mount and balance

 

im running the bfg a/t 285/65/R20 i have no lift or level on my truck the only issue i had was my front mud flaps. they are cheap mud flaps and they rubbed at full turn so i just took them off.

 

Denniss66 - Are your wheels the same backspacing and width as stock 20's on the 4WDs? Looks good.

 

I will once again vouch for Bridgestone Dueler Revo's. I had two sets, the first set i had for over 60k and they still had some life left in them. The second set still had the tread wear indicators, those little things that stick off and look brand new when i sold my Tahoe. And i had them for about 15K. Cant go wrong with those tires...Great road tire with semi-off road capability, but we all know the BFG isnt a true off road tire and they are decent. Im really not sure how they got so big, other than the HUGE advertising campaign they had from inception.

Here they are in a 275/60/20, pretty much the same size....a tad taller i think...but $880 for a set of 4 is a hell of a deal.....trust me on these tires...he did and maybe you could find the same deal

i dont know about you but unless you like spending an extra $596 on name, im sure you could put that money to good use elsewhere on your truck. Hell ill take $596 if its no object
