These are the upgrades....please answer.
Did my idea on the welding of a muffler and bypassing a full exhaust system make sense ?
Since you're in Tampa, I'm sure you know where PC is then... about 20 minutes East of where I-4 starts from I-275. I hadn't noticed J.J is in Tampa Bay. What a small world it is here on DF!
A cam is a pretty big upgrade. I had one custom ground for me when Marty was still at KRC, basically their 210 cam but with a -4* grind for gobs of low end torque.
I never did install it and after Marty left KRC and got out of the industry I sold it. I really wasn't comfortable with anyone else doing the custom tune this grind would require. The reason I sat on the cam in a box in the garage for over two years is because of my truck being an '04. The only tuners available that could be custom tuned to tame this cam (Diablo & SCT) did/do not offer some of the features I have with the Superchips which I deemed to be indispensable. Mainly full transmission support which is absent on the Diablo and the SCT (at least at the time) wouldn't even do tire size recalibration not to mention tranny support.
My only option would have been to run a piggyback with the Superchips and I wasn't willing to do that.
So there is A LOT to think about before doing a cam. Some mild cams can be run off a Superchips (6.1 for sure but it sucks on a heavy truck, Comp 260 and a couple of others), while all the more aggressive cams need a custom tune.
Other components need to be changed as well. Even the more mild cams need upgraded springs, retainers and pushrods. Some require a CAI, headers & a ported TB while some even need upgraded, ported heads.
A cam swap is NOT something to be entered into lightly. I personally know a lot of guys with issues with a cam like stalling, can't hold an idle without stalling and other erratic problems where they can't get the custom tune just right. This is custom sh*t and a LOT of tweaking is often required...

Please dont go diving head first into a cam swap. You need to do some research, LOTS of research before going that route. Need to decide what you are after with truck first, then pick the direction, knock out the supporting mods, then take a look at the cams, ask questions, LOTS OF QUESTIONS, to the people that have the cams you are looking at (how they like it, what the powerband is like, how did they tune it, do they like it, what supporting mods do they have).
Thanks guys again great answers. A cam is not something on my horizon, i was just more curious...lol...As far as the weld with lt headers i guess i get that you have to cut the y pipe to move down the cats. And ill def lower it as i said before first thing. What are the swat bar opimions on LOWERED trucks ? And do u upgrade the front to ?
And as far as shocks go I am def thinking of going with BELL TECH NITRO 2 drop shocks. But what is the difference between all there models numbers. They have the belltech 8001, 8006, 8504; They all say they fit my truck but whats the difference between them ? They are driving me nutz with the info over load on there websites. I think the 8006 and 8504 model numbers the right choices so I am looking for some re assurance. I think 2 of each of those models numbers should do it.
And I was looking into those Pacesetters that work with the Y pipe. But my two questions regarding these parts is why do they say for off road use only ? And will this part serve me a huge advantage on my truck or is worth just keeping factory piping and changing just the small Y part for about $30 http://static.summitracing.com/globa...-82-1187_w.jpg
OK so I took the time this time around just as you guys have for me (THANK YOU BY THE WAY !!!
I took the time and created a single slide powerpoint and chaged into a jpeg so you can view it. Basically I put all the parts in order as if they were under/on my vehicle. I listed the model numbers and name brands so you all can give your two cents. I really have researched all this based on your info and other in the field. The only thing missing from the picture is the brake pads I will upgrade to which I think are EBC greenstuff 6000 series (Do you have an opinion on those ? ) So here is the link please give me your feed back and I hope you enjoy my artwork, lol. If its doesnt click just copy and paste it if you please. I cant wait to get feedback on this stuff !!! Thanks. M.W.

Now how in the hell could you use the pacesetter Y and keep your cats? which is why pacesetter lists them for off-road use only, since omitting the cats technically is illegal in this country. You'd have to cut them down considerably to keep your cats. I'd just go with the Maggie Y...

I personally don't see ANY benefit in this at all, and a waste of money. I will be going with those headers, but having them reduced to 2-1/2" to accommodate the OEM cats as close to the original positions as conveniently possible, then the 2-1/2" pipes that the exhaust shop will custom bend will run into the Magnaflow y-pipe I have sitting on a shelf in the garage, and a single 3" pipe system from there out. There is no reason to replace the cats on my truck to something else, and by leaving them as 2-1/2" will allow me to maintain the low-end torque that I fear I would lose by making everything 3".
I was thinking the Y pipe might fit with the cats, I guess I was mistaken, lol. Ok so the magna flow Y pipe it is. And RON your saying your the headers go into the cats, come out the cats into a 2.5 pipe and then out the pipe a 3" to the muffler? Then are you also going to run 3" out of the muffler ?
And what did you guys think of the drawing and the set up ?
