Default Towing Limit

Hi,
We have a 7700 lb. Travel Trailer. Should I be able to tow this with my 2002 Ram 1500 w/ a 4.7? We are only moving it a couple campsites so its not like we are going down the road but I wanted to ask before I tried and like blow my tranny or something. Well thanks in advance for the help.

You should not have a problem. I frequently move my 24 ft. boat with my 400cc ATV so I'm sure you wont have a problem with a camper on your Ram. The biggest problem will be stopping. Just go slow.

DeeJayy,
I'm sure everyone is assuming you have a tow hitch.

I wouldn't hook 7700 lbs toyour bumper with a ball on it.

Or

Maybe I missed something and you have a receiver hitch?

For one that size make sure you take off the overdrive and take it easy on the hills. As long as you take it easy it should be no problem. That trailer is near the top of the tow rating.

DeeJayy,
I'm sure everyone is assuming you have a tow hitch.

I wouldn't hook 7700 lbs to your bumper with a ball on it.
Also, make sure that you have the correct class hitch.

http://www.hitchesonline.com/hitch_selection.htm

Towing a 7700 lb TT with a class 3 hitch probably isn't a good idea. Even with a weight carrying class 4 hitch, you are 200 lbs overweight. Maybe a weight-distributing hitch will help?

Also, here's Dodge's towing guide.

http://www-5.dodge.com/vehsuite/TowingGuide.jsp

A 4.7L 1500 4x4 QC with with 3.92 Axle Ratio and P265/70R17 BSW All Season Tires You Can Tow 7100 lbs.

You only moving it a couple of campsites? then you are perfectly fine. Your tranny will be fine also.

Just like mentioned before, dont hook it to the bumper!!!
