2 week old truck and rusted drive line
Newbie here,
Got a question. I just bought a 07 1500 two weeks ago. I installed some westin nerf bars over the weekend and while I was under the truck I noticed that the drive lines have a layer of rust on them. Then I started to really look and it appears that all of the drive shafts have rust.
This common for dodges??????
I spoke with the service rep and he said it is common. NO problems with it, besides that horrible look.
Anybody else notice this or have this problem? I was thinking that this truck did not get an undercoat. I am following up with the dealership on it.

hopefully this isn't too ignorant of a question, but are our driveshafts steel or aluminum?
i haven't paid too much attention to the front shaft, but the rear shaft looks rust free and looks like aluminum, i guess it could be stainless steel though.

Yup, 4x4s are Steel. WE need that extra Oooomph that only shatty steel can provide. As for rust, its totally normal, unless you live in a desert in which case that is weird. For those of us who get weather, and more specifically wet and cool weather the rust is a way of life.
I totally second the Rustoleum. I used it on mine and continue to use it when I notice any large rock chips.
Handymans favorite weapons.....Duct Tape, Black Rustoleum and Undercoat. They can fix anything under out babies.....
