Superchip 3815 or DiabloSport U7135 - and 1 question

I've got two programmers on my mind...Superchip 3815 or Diablo Sport (Predator) U7135. I'll be buying soon. I'm mainly looking for a bit bitter gas mileage. However, I'd like a programmer that will allow me to program for economy but also program to really pick up power when needed
Quick question - do programmers work while you're driving? I'm not familiar with how they work - do you have to shut the truck off and program it and turn it back on or is it something you can tell the programmer to do while driving....basically be able to tell it to switch between its preset programs on the fly. Does it take a couple minutes to kick in or what?
Thanks guys (and gals if there are any
)

You have to be stopped and the engine off ot upload the program.
I would suggest the Predator. I have had good luck with them and wil soon be ordering mine from www.diablosport.com. They are on sale right now.
I gained about 2mpg on my 01 F150 when I had it.
Oh, and you had better get a U7137 for a Ram.

It all depends on how big into mods you plan to get... The Diablo will offer much more tunability... but that also brings the ability to blow your engine up should you make a bad adjustment. Check out the LX forums... they have a list of BLOWN engines do to bad tuning and just not knowing how to tune....
The Superchips is a great tune for 90% of people... Its safe and offers a decent Power Gain with some ability to chose a tailored tune for your application on their site. So if you just plan the basic mods then I would suggest the 3815 Superchips. If you plan CAMS, HEADS, EXHAUST... You may want to lean towards the Diablo.
You do need to be PARKED and tune at a stand still. You will need to turn the ignition ON & OFF a few times as it does its thing.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

I finally have my predator updated and installed the 91 tune with my personal tweaking. I'm probably taking it on its first road trip tomorrow but the roads are probably going to be crap and it's supposed to be a high of -17 tomorrow. I'm not expecting to be able to interpret any results on this trip...
