Raising gas mileage?

Raising gas mileage?
I drive a 2002 5.9v8 4x4 quad cab ram, it's nice and beefy! only problem is that gas is awful in this vehicle. I have stock duel exhaust- which helps a little. Also have a tonneau cover on it as well. Are there any suggestions to help better the mileage? I heard the K & N filters help a lot. I'm open for ideas.
Thanks a lot!

I have the same truck and I get about 12mpg. When I bought the truck it had 33x12.50R17 and no exhaust, just a pipe from the cat back I was getting 9 mpg. I changed back to Stock 20's (still a 33 but not as wide) and added a Magnaflow duel out exhaust and now I get 12 MPG combined. I do have a K&N Filter (not the cold air, just the filter). I am doing a lot of reading and research on the Superchip mod but I honestly think that 12mpg combined is really the best I will ever get. The new Hemi's do not really get much better. The 5.9 is kinda known for it's poor fuel mileage. If you do find something please post your results I would be interested in real world results. Goodluck

That's been the dig on the venerable old LA360 from day one, way back in the early '70s, super reliable, torquey sob, but terrible fuel economy.
The Hemi, by comparison has about the same torque, 100 more HP yet gets about 20% better gas mileage.
Nothing is gonna make that thing economical to run by any means, but start with the basics. Good tune-up, all synthetic fluids everywhere you can use them, proper tire pressure.
Get it breathing better, with a CAI or at least a high quality drop-in, higher flow cats and a good flowing muffler. The e-fan would help some too.
I'm also a strong believer that POWER makes for better fuel economy, if you can keep your foot off it. The stronger the engine runs, the better it moves the mass with less throttle (gas). That said, look seriously at the Superchips Flashpaq tuner. It really wakes up that 360, almost 50 more HP and 60 more TQ. But like I said, you then gotta keep your foot off it...

You drive a Dodge truck with a 5.9L V8.
1) You drive a Dodge. Dodge's are known for their bad gas mileage compared to GM or Ford.
2) You drive a truck, what do you expect? I have never known a full size truck with a V8 to get "good" gas mileage.
3) 5.9L V8.. It's a thirsty engine. Best you could do that's cost effective is get a CAI, tuner, and an electric fan from what I hear.
Also give it a tune-up. Check the O2 sensor(s), spark plugs, mass airflow sensor, fuel system clean...
I also hear using a can of slick 50 or seafoam with an oil change works great too.
