Default A few Questions about the DMH Cutout

I decided i'm going to get the cutout. I was looking on line and there are a few different kinds and sizes.

Whats the difference with the ones with Flowtech, and what are the Borlas. I have read on here that 25 feet is a good length to get in the wire.

Now on the size I went and measured my pipe about a foot in front of the muffler with a caliper and it shows like 2.8 inches on the outside. So i'm thinking to order the 3 inch correct?

You want the 3" cutout with the flowtech pipe unless you are planning on fabbing your own pipe for a mount. 25' is good but with mine eventhough I ordered one with 25' they only sent 10' and it was no where near the right length of wire. Also this setup goes before the muffler after the Y and that portion should be 3". Pay no attention to the borla setup, its not needed.

Wiring is straight forward and very simple to do. Just a bit of a warning though, this setup does not clamp in so you will either have to modify the pipe to make it clamp or weld it in place.

OK thanks, I plan on welding it myself. So i'm guessing if the wires are to short I can just splice some in?

Yeah I just used some speaker wire since it was roughly the same gauge wire. Its a really simple setup.

Its a lot of fun... Just dont try to open it or close it while driving, you need to do it while you are stopped or you can burn up the motor and it wont work right.

why does everyone use a single 3" instead of putting them just after the cats and running dual 2.5inch then it being duals...wouldnt this make better topend hp???

In my case there is no room to do it after the cats before it goes to the y-pipe. I would have to extend the pipe after the cats and then go to the y. I'm doing it this way because it's the cheapest and i can still have quit exhaust so when I come home at 4 am from work I don't wake everyone

Unless you have a large cam, heads and headers there really is no point in going the dual cutout rout as it can actually hurt your performance more than help it. With heavy *** trucks we want better lowend to get them moving off the line quicker and with the cutouts you can loose some of that low end power and hurt your times because of the lack of back pressure. Even with a single cutout this can happen, when I first put mine on I had faster 0-60 times with it closed running through the catback than with it open (at the time I had a catback, intake, SC programmer) eventhough when it was on the dyno it gave better numbers with it open than it did with it closed for peak HP/TQ. After adding a few new things though Im quicker with it open (tested it multiple times with 0-60 runs) and it feels right...
