Why don't they put that Aisin 6 speed auto in the 1500? It is now behind the Hemi in the 2500 and they boast it gets better economy that the old 545REF??
you know, i was originally looking for a manual CTD 2500, but after driving a big rig with a 10spd for a year OTR, i didnt want to drive one again. after shifting 100+ times up and down a day, i just didnt want one anymore. settled for an auto HEMI.
Same here, but never went OTR only local. Drove so much and shifted so much i never even wanted to drive my mustang!
I was the same way about wanting to get all my cars in stick shift 10years ago, but as you get older it's just a hassle IMO especially being a truck where the shifter must travel much further than a car. I like my automatic. just slam the gas and go while your eating a burger None of this hold the wheel with your knee stuff.
I love the 5 speed in my truck. My 2500 is worked and wheeled hard. The manual does NOT make it faster though. The NV4500 tranny is not a sports car tranny, it has very long throws. My friend has he same truck with an auto and he can smoke me in a drag race. He also needs brakes twice as ofter and is on his second tranny...hmmm...?
When I got my Dodge, I was shopping for a big V-8 gasser half-ton with a manual that could tow. I checked Dodges (only in a 4.7), Toyotas (not an option) and Fords (6 cylinder only...lol). The manufacturers don't think there's enough need. Maybe they're right. At least gear control is becoming more popular with the newer trucks.
