when it happened i was coasting along at 55mph on base. the temp was fine until then, and it didnt throw any codes until then. everything was fine until all of a sudden, trans went crazy, lost gears, temp soared and threw codes, like all at once.

"coasting along at 55mph on base" That just doesn't sound right, Usually they give up while at high rpm going into second gear. I might want to look closely at the TC and pump for initial cause of failure.

i had a 727 grenade like that once, the converter snout was not machined deep enough where it engaged the trans pump, the snout forced the pump to ride against the thrust plate, and eventually the metal shavings destroyed the planitarys, then BOOB! goo all over the drag strip!

You got BOOB goo all over the drag strip?

I agree with Horseapples. Probably why they are so eager to replace your converter and even pick up the old one!!

Yeah but if the TC had something off or wrong I would think it would have been running hotter than normal or had some idication that it was going bad....

no new update on the trans, but just got back from the ER. took like 4 hours! as expected last digit of my ring finger was mildly crushed. fractured in a few locations to be exact. nothing too serious, no surgery or anything needed. they just drained the excess fluid, put it in a small cast, gave me some vicodin, and sent me on my way.

also, im seriously considering getting the sharadon stage II trans and stage II valve body. i can get it from moes with no core charge, free shipping, and no sales tax. although i did some research on it over on DT, and that just pissed me off more than anything. now i know why i NEVER go to that site.

so if anyone has any insight on the sharadon tranny, im all ears. otherwise ill probably just grab a reman from somewhere and call it a day.

Probably was a situation where the new components pused a ? transmission over the edge, but I don't think you'll ever know.

Side note, as someone who was a catcher for about a dozen years including a couple stints in the lowly minors, you got you a busted finger. I've broken every one of mine at one time or another, and my right wrist twice and left wrist once. Only parts I've never broken were either of my thumbs...
WOW Hammer.....I bet your hands and wrists ache like a SOB in winter with all those old breaks and stuff?

AS for the Transmission problems OlDirtyJohn, I feel for you bro'.
It's not just that the transmission blew, although that's bad enough, it's also a confidence thing as well.
Was it installed right....was that part in the shift kit installed correctly....was the torque converter OK???? stuff like that.
All that second guessing stuff screws with your head and makes everything worse. So much so, that your now considering a "turn key" solution to your problem, by buying a complete modded tranny costing probably a lot more $'s.
I've been there with an engine I rebuilt years ago.
Anyhow, good luck and post up what you finally do.
Al.
