Default 2008 Valve Spring Failed on my Ram 1500

Had really bad misfiring and shaking, then engine just died. Had it towed to dealer and they replaced the one of the valve springs. Good thing I have the lifetime warranty on the power train.

NiNod, tell us about your ride so the '08 drivers can get a heads-up on the horizon.
engine size?
miles showing on the odo.
Buy it new?
Mods beyond OEM?

Weed, Thanks. "correct. 03s and early 04s" , my 2500 5.7 '04 sn in my VIN is 109xxx (mfg 8/03). Almost fell out of my chair reading that and eating my beans&winnies. I've got about 13K on the odo, maybe I should start collecting the necessary parts and tools to make the R&R?
What kind of mileage are they beginning to collapse around?
My first one went at 78K miles, then the next when I started this thread. Not sure if there is a specific mileage "window". If you have them in there, I'd get them changed out as soon as you can.

Has anyone used this tool before;

I have got to do my springs soon and was hoping for some feedback on the tool before I buy one.

Default Hemi Spring tool

$126 was not horrible. Superior wants $199 for theirs. Make sure it is similar to the one that supperior has. Take off the head and take some measurements and if you can weld you can make one with some scrap metal. If the broken spring is on the driver side remove the brake booster, makes life much easier and have a telescoping magnet to keep track of those valve retainers. More than likely you will never use the tool again especially if you upgrade your springs. My spring was on cylinder 8 exhaust side on a 2003 4x4 with 52000.

how did you know the valve spring was broken? What were the symptoms? (or was is obviouis) I am having some really bad ticking when starting my truck cold. As soon as it warms up it goes away. Almost seems like a sticky valve, but after reading this I am wondering if the spring could be broken. The "ticking" is really really loud at first.
