Default Trying to add Freon to 2003 Ram 1500

Hello all new here. I have a 2003 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi. Today my AC started blowing warm air so I’m assuming my Freon is low. I tried to add Freon to the ac low pressure line port and it seems there might be too much pressure in the line. I can’t get my line on without the port rejecting it. Any ideas? Thank ya

You don't have Freon, you have refrigerant. Freon hasn't been used since about 1993. Are you sure you're using the low side port? It won't fit on the high side. You have to press hard and snap the retaining ring down. The rungs holds it in place.

Yeah I was trying to use r134. The cap had an L on it and the connector should fit on it. I can try to force it on but the pressure pushes it right back off. This is with the ac on high and truck on. I just drove to work and it was ice cold, once I got here and parked it started blowing warm again. The clutch starts and stops when I’m not driving.

Your a/c condenser fan is bad. You can replace just the motor for about $30.

Is the condenser fan supposed to be running when I start the truck? It wasn’t running when I did and had ac on max.

The fan should be running. The reason you are getting cool air when you drive is because air is flowing through the a/c condenser. When you stop there is no air flow so your refrigerant gets warm. The fan should be pulling air through the condenser, but isn't, so you get warm air when you are not moving.

Yep all makes sense now. I looked around at local auto stores just for he motor and they were running 85-90$ but I jut found the whole assembly on amazon for 55$ with great reviews. I appreciate the knowledge.

When installing new motor, do not disconnect the a/c lines. I prefer removing cross bar in front of the condenser and leaning it forward to get the fan off. Others like to loosen the fuse box and lean the fan back.

Yea it looks like that the plastic that the ac line is attached to needs to be cut off so you can get the whole assembly out
