Default Front differential question

2002 1500 4.7 4x4
I have replaced front passenger axel seal 2 times and it still leaks. Please look at my picture and tell me what you think. It would seem to me that the shaft should stay centered in the housing not be laying on the bottom. Dodge parts dept says that the only thing that goes in there is the seal.

Should this be resting on the bottom of the housing?

Your thinking same as me. Axle will be centred when it splines up with wheel hub and everything is back together.

I AM curious about bearings to hold things in place though. I would like to think they are on the part NOT pictured.

Default CV axel

Left end slides thru hub. Right end slides over shaft.

No bearings on this CV axel
So the CV axel slides over the end of that shaft. The CV axel is only held onto the Hub with a 36mm nut and it is a flexible not ridgid axel, so when you slide it onto the shaft then the only thing holding all the weight of the CV axel and the shaft is the rubber seal.

Looking at the parts diagram, there IS a bearing in there, but, doesn't really show how FAR in there. I would be tempted to pull the cover, and have a look on the inside.

So dodge says that there is an Intermediate shaft, C clip, Seal, Bushing, and an Oring.

The parts diagram I looked at listed a bearing. Have a look here. Number 5 in the diagram.
