Unhappy Stereo replacement?

Hey all, just got a 2008 Ram 2500 and I'm trying to replace the stereo... It took me a couple tries to find a harness that worked and the one I have now still doesn't encompass all the wires that went to the stock stereo. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong? The wiring diagram found on http://www.modifiedlife.com/2008-dod...comment-816772 looks completely different than what I have.

It looks like you have the basic wires connected and I suspect you are getting sound from your radio. Wiring harnesses are standard and many trucks have wiring plugs that are not used. The blue/white wire for instance, would connect to a factory amp. Other wires may connect to reverse sensing for a back up camera, or to a Nav system.
Are you getting sound from the radio? Does the interior light dimmer function work? Does your door chime still work? Let me know if there is a problem and we can work from there.

Some of that is for the Sirius/XM receiver, if equipped, and the U-Connect system, if equipped, which my 08 has both.

I'm getting no power to the stereo at all, so no sound. I know my solders are good and the stock stereo that was in before worked so that pretty much knocks out the internal wiring as the problem. The light dimmer and door chime both work fine.

Thanks so much for the reply.

I replaced my head unit back in August. I found out that if you have the Infinity sound system you would have to bypass the oem infinity amplifier in order to use an aftermarket head unit. It’s kind of a pain to figure out if you have an infinity system IMO. Easiest way I did was pull off the cover of where you DASH tweeters would be if you had the infinity system. A Large flathead screwdriver or Body clip tool should be used to pop the clips. If you don’t have any tweeters in the dash then there may be some other issue here.

Ruling out whether or not you have the infinity system will save you a headache of a time as if you do have it, they make an aftermarket bypass harness that is just plug and play.

Sorry for the vague description but if you have any questions I’d be more than happy to help.

I just redid the wiring in my 07 2500 non Infinity original radio. The previous owner installed an aftermarket double din radio with backup camera and used a basic wiring harness and had a mess of tapped wires coming from the cigar lighter, brake pedal and reverse switch. I ordered the PAC C2R-CHY4 which comes with the module to interface with the vehicle's communication network. It was a bit pricey at $50 on ebay but it made for a very clean installation. It provides the accessory power (on/off with the vehicle including the RAP feature), parking brake signal and reverse signal.

A couple of questions:
- what color wires from the truck are not connected?
- what radio system do you have? 4 speaker, 7 speaker with infinity amp?
- what wiring harness adapter did you use (number, manufacturer)? Does wiring adapter have a module on it to set brand of radio?
- did you check the fuse on the back of the unit? You can check the fuse for continuity with a multimeter without removing the fuse.

I'm thinking there is a bad connection for power or ground.

What did you tap into to get accessory power? From my research recently doing this, I believe the computer controls the accessory power. If you don't use the PAC harness with the box that talks to the network then you have to tap into something that has power when the key is on. Most people tap into the cigar lighter.

Does that look like the bypass harness? That's what I got the first time around and it didn't plug into what was there at all.

That's what I have now that plugs in fine but doesn't seem to be working.

That one says it's not compatible with my 08 2500 ST but the plug looks right... What do you think the odds are of it being the same as this? https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got that one initially but it didn't plug in at all
