Default Intermittent Multiple Cylinder Misfire

Over the past couple of months I have been getting a random misfire at times. This only happens as I’m driving then come to a stoplight or sign and then get going. It dogs down and has no power and runs very rough. I get a P0300 code and when I turn the truck off and on it goes away. This is very intermittent and happens at different times. Yesterday it stays constant now when I turn the truck on. Any helpful tips to look into? I’m going to look at fuel pressure and possibly change the crank sensor to see what it does. 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 in it about 108,000 miles on it. Plugs and wires have been changed once or twice in its life.

I’m not entirely sure. They have been In there for probably around 40k or so. With it being intermittent I kinda wasn’t looking into the plugs too much.

I'd pull one and see what is in there. Should only use the cheap copper champions in there... the longer lasting ones (platinum/irridium) can cause issues like you're having.

That wouldn’t happen right away and just after all this time it would start doing it?

I agree that pulling the plugs will give you a good idea of what's going on inside the engine. The 0300 is a general code, but a code reader will tell you what cylinder(s) are misfiring.

That’s what my code reader is saying P0300. It doesn’t point out one specific cylinder. I’ll pull the plugs and see what they are.

It’s got the Champion 3570s in it. Platinum plugs not copper. Might be time for a change…

Yep, put in standard copper plugs. I think you will find your problems go away.

Those are probably the original plugs. You've got some carbon fouling, but that is probably because the gap is about .80.
