Do you have an open diff or the limited slip?

If it's open, then getting both to spin will be hit or miss.

If you really want them both to spin on demand, you need to add a locker or a GOOD limited slip (Detroit TrueTrac).

Otherwise, once one wheel breaks free, the othe one gets little to no power.

If you really wanna put on a good smoke show, put some bleach under the tires. Doesn't smell quite as yummy as just rubber, but you sure won't have any skeeter problems for a while.

I got the Auburn in mine. Looks like we have pretty much the same vehicle. If you aren't having gears changed too, it should cost less than $700 ($620 in my case) to have it installed. Took them about 1.5 hours.

Auburn's a good one too.

Those are the only 2 LS's I'd put in; Detroit TrueTrac or an Auburn.

is the install really $620 for an auburn? [:@] Is that with the lsd included or did you supply the part? I found some brand new auburn posi's for $380 and i'm not looking to spend $1000 buying and having a posi installed. When I do it I am also going to 4.10 gears.

The labor should run around $300 - 500 per axle; depending if you get gears installed and they have to setup the pinion. The parts are gonna be additional.

If you're are just swapping diff's, you "usually" can get away with not resetting everything.

Find a GOOD shop if you are gonna do this. And I mean a guy that has done gears and diff's for years and years. It is so easy to screw up a gear install, it's not even funny. You get these friggin monkeys that think they can setup a gear set and the next thing you know, 100 miles down the round you get this god awful whine and not to much farther you lock up the rear end.

Do some homework before you let anybody tear into your gears.

Heck, it wouldn't matter if he was running a top fuel motor if it has an open diff.

Open diff = one wheel peel
