Tear down, means that the tech will try to find the root cause of the problem you are having.

Sorry to OP as well. I would hope you would try a different dealer this time.(IF you can) If you already lost faith in them, going back to the same one that makes your repairs worse, or cant fix anything, isnt going to be a much better experience than you`ve already had with them. I wish you all the luck regardless.

Without doing the whole quotes thing....If I had been back to the dealer 11 times for dealer induced problems I'd be on the phone with the Chrysler complaint dept and regional rep big time. And I still think they are doing this so you get rid of your truck due to the lifetime powertrain warranty. My dealer practically runs up to me when they see my truck roll in trying to get me to trade in. Last offer was $21000.00. I had to bring my truck in three times to get my A/c fixed and I told them if it didn't get fixed this time I'd be calling the Rep. I also brought the service guys in a bunch of lemon squares when I brought it in the third time as a hint. It is sad that they can't find good techs but not my problem....I have lifetime power train and I keep my truck up to date on all services just for that reason. My truck runs great and after I bring it to the dealer it damned well better still be running great, that's all I have to say....

Default Pinion Nut

All--This recall is NO JOKE. My pinion nut failed approximately 2 weeks ago on my 09 Ram 1500 Laramie and I now have a completely new drive shaft, rear diff and rear transfer! Thankfully when mine went I didn't have my kids in the car. The indicator was a moaning noise from the area of the rear diff. When the nut went the drive shaft came completely free from the rear transfer. If you hear that strange noise by all means get your vehicle checked out immediately.

Default pinion nut recall

Please no bashing my motives are to get these death traps off the road and fixed! I realize this post is for 4th gen ram, my truck is 3rd gen, however this info is for people in both the 3rd gen and 4th gen ram that their vin's are not on the recall list.

Me, my son and another one of his baseball teamates almost died on Sat, July 20th 2013 as a result of the pinion nut comming lose on my 05 4x4 hemi 1500 traveling 70-72 mph on interstate 80/90 200 miles from home after a baseball tournament. With almost No warning the rear end locked up and the driveshaft came completely off my truck in traffic, sending multiple cars into ditches on both sides of the interstate, amazingly no one seriously hurt. Anyway i'm no mechanic, on monday morn july 22nd, when my mechanic got to go through my truck, i was informed the pinion nut came loose and sucked both the rear pinion and nut assembly into my rear differential.
The occurance itself was photographed, along with the driveshaft showing both u-joints still attached and complete on drive shaft with yolk assembly. The rear end once opened also photographed to verify what happened. This was the second ram he's seen do this, the other was under the recall.
Chrysler was contacted and said my vin not included so ai was advised by my mechanic to take it up w/chrysler myself. Chrysler blew me off! I went to The NHTSA website and many other forums such as this and have found over 100 different documentated cases specifically stating the pinion nut came loose. if you go to www.safercar.gov, you can view all the complaints, as well as the info that NHTSA has requested of Chrysler to produce, Chryslers responses and admissions of using these same parts for earlier model years prior to the recall models. And specifically stating in recalls that 2009 model year vehicles were being made in feb of 2007, and 2010 model year vehicles being made during fall of 2008!!! Something does not jive well here, I have been informed that 2009 models were not manufactured during 2007!!!! what about the 2007, 08, $ 09 models that were being made during this time that are not on the list! I'm submitting 100 pages of documented incidents from 2002 to 2009 alone, as well as the Chrysler responses and recall info so it can be seen in plain view. I think many things have not been investigated or just plainly overlooked by the NHTSA office of defects division and am requesting to reopen or further their investigation on this deadly issue! Theres 6 recalls on their website affecting almost 1 million vehicles from 2009-2012. 5 are for pinion nut comming loose, 1 for bearing failures these recalls cover Ram, Dakotas, Durango and the chrysler aspen van models. If you have had the pinion nut issue and are told your vin is not included into the recall, u need to contact the NHTSA website www.safercar.gov and Chrysler and file your complaint so this issue can get taken care of before one of your friends, or family members die in a crash that could have been prevented for a $4.00 fix. I am pissed for the fact that driving this vehicle i could be dead, or may die the next time I'm on a 2 lane highway and another dodge product goes out of comtrol due to a nut comming loose that should never happen at all and slamms into me head on!

So.....Just curious. Why hasn't anyone started a class action lawsuit?
Maybe we should. what would that take and what grounds would we have to start one? Would there be a law firm that would take it?

I just got mine taken care of yesterday. I'm glad that you weren't hurt. It will be interesting to see if some sort of legal action takes place. It will have to be a class action suit, otherwise no ordinary citizen could stand the legal fees.

Until someones dies from a driveshaft flying out, and/or, rearend locking up causing an accident/death, you`re not likely going to win. Chrysler has alot of lawyers, as well as alot of money to pay them. Like ramluv says, you couldnt handle all the legal fees... chrysler would win.

U are correct, I contacted a close friend/ lawyer who deals with product liability, he subjested to find a legal firm that has handled a similar class actions suit. The same packet I sent out to Nhtsa, is prepared to be sent to a legal firm. I am highly upset at this whole episode! First of all I have to spend about 2300, in rear end damage and drive shaft! 753.00 in towing, 150.00 in rental car(3days) then after I get the truck back, I now had to redo the entire front end complete rack and pinion, and other items,at another 1300.00, plus 90 bucks for another alignment. I just got brand new tires 2 months ago, and had a allignment done at that time! last year I spent 1700 in front end suspension work! Truck was in tip top shape! Now there's vibrations all over, truck still pulls to right, it feels like tranny is slipping or missing at highway speeds, and sometimes now after sitting for a while, it will not move when put into drive or reverse until I really lay on the gas pedal. It acts like a motorcycle trying to move while letting the clutch out in 1/8 increments!!! I'm pissed to the fact that my beautiful truck is instantly a piece of **** now due to a simple nut coming loose!

I'm so tired with the way our world is changing, the word accountability means nothing anymore!

I hope for everyones sakes (who is concerned) that Dodge comes up with the solution for this... Though in my mind I'm thinking upgrade... Could get them to install a limited slip while they are in there for cheap considering most of the labour is going to be billed to the recall... ...

On a side note, I have a whole new rear end as of last year from going over a man hole with no cover, damn near ripped the whole rear end out. Though, I still have the recall notice. Not gonna argue free stuff!
