Ticking sound when coasting?
At least once a year on my 2010 I would have to take the fob apart occasionally, clear the dust out of it and clean the contacts on the membrane with contact cleaner for the same problem.

Nothing yet and I've gone close to 1,500 mi since the job. I've been periodically getting under the hood to check for anything and everything that could be wrong still (I'm extremely pessimistic) and so far all is golden. Only crap my ram has given me is the keyless entry stopped working randomly so as of late I have to unlock my door with the key like some kind of caveman. Hahaha
I've been plagued by the intermittent key fob phenomena since the truck was new. Battery's been replaced and the contacts cleaned a number of times. Of course it always worked when I was complaining to the dealer. Next time the fob fails to unlock your door/s, try holding the fob up close to the b-pillar - about half way up. Works for me about 99 percent of the time.
Cheers,
Keith
Hey guys, new on here and I know these messages were from a few years back. But I have a 2011 RAM 1500 with the exact same issue. Only in eco mode as well. In the military, Bought December 2014. Was transferred from NC to Alaska and drove the entire drive in July last year with out a single issue. Didn't start having the problem until I got onto the island of Kodiak where I'm stationed now. And now still have the issue. My MDS does not shut down cylinders, just messes with fuel. I was curious if anybody had this issue and changed the solenoids and fixed it. Thanks.

Greatly appreciate the update. While doing my research I discovered that just under 40 camshafts were being used monthly per month for 2009-2010 5.7 Hemi Rams nationally. Because camshafts are rarely an issue on Chrysler products, this made me very suspicious. Since this problem appears to affect only a small portion of the 5.7 truck motors, I'm thinking that at some point they had a hardening issue which was not readily detected. I've not heard of this symptom occurring on 2011-2014s, and not on cars at all.
The reference to "soft" lifters may relate to the spring inside the lifter body.
Best regards,
Dusty

Chiming back in on the status of my truck. Not sure why my dealer and or Chrysler will not take the advise and replace the items discussed as a possible resolution to this noise. They have replaced (during 5 separate visits in a little over a year) all mds's twice, mds wiring, two heads, complete set of lifters twice, push rods, blamed the noise on broken manifold bolts, even modified exhaust - which I don't have. When they do these fixes it does temporarily stop the noise. But it seems to come back after a couple months. I'll be taking it back again.
Well guys I'm another to add to the club. Bought a 2010 in November and just ticked over 60k and now I have that sound too out of nowhere. I will be knocking down the timing chain theory first since I have 2 other master techs I know agree that makes the most sense out of all the other things. But so far with this truck I have zero confidence in its reliability and now I'm stuck with it. Shoulda bought a 04 Sierra.

Despite the noise, I'm am not aware of, or even heard of, a 5.7 Hemi truck motor having this symptom cause a reliability issue, i.e.: failure.
When the techs. open the front of the motor up, advise that they pay close attention to the chain followers and springs. Even at 60,000 miles I would recommend replacing them even if they don't look too worn. I would also HIGHLY recommend replacing the cam phaser.

I have to say my problem is finally fixed. Everyone posted all of the things that didn't fix it and no one posted the fix if they did solve. Then a dodge tech actually posts the fix to the problem and everyone takes the time to debate it? Well I replaced the chain, guide and tensioner and now my sound is gone. There is clear evidence of wear on the guides beyond what should be there for a vehicle with 60k. The mechanic has also stated the new chain has far more tension on it than the old one had so there we go. Next time listen to the lone post on here, could have saved a lot of people their time and money. Worst forum fail ever.
