Where would I look to know for myself if I have a 6 point or 12 point pinion nut? It would at least be piece of mind to know for myself if I potentially have the issue when I'm flying down the interstate at 75mph.

You would look at the pinion nut

The nut that is holding the driveshaft yoke on your rear axle.

I think you have to drop the driveshaft at the U-joint/yoke in front of the diff in order to see the nut.

A safety recall is typically paid for by the manufacturer. There was no cost to me and no mention of it being 'covered by warranty' or anything like that.

I know, I only asked because I have read on some other forums were people were having to pay a service fee for the inspection if the result yielded no fix. If it was fixable, then it was covered.

If you are under the recall the service will be at no cost weather they do anything or not.
